Default Should I Go To Harvard Or Stay w/ Successful Startups?

Help This Entrepreneur Decide Between Harvard And His Startups (Vote Here) | TechCrunch

Pretty good problem for this fellow to have. Obviously; I think I know which way us Fastlaners would vote towards.. but still interesting. It says 53% vs. 47% towards Harvard.

Who do you think voted the majority 53% to go to Harvard? Slow-laners? Side-walkers? Anyone think a Fastlaner would vote towards Harvard?

Depends on how well one knows themselves. Not everyone who believes they're fastlaners are, just like not everyone who believes they're slowlaners are.

Despite beliefs, odds are that Havard would be the winning bet for most.

I'd vote Harvard too. It takes 2 years for the MBA. I think if you are hedging your bets for overall life success, then its a good investment. Not to mention you can develop a great network of friends/contacts.

Seems to me like he's generating interest and publicity for a potential sale of his startups if he does decide to go to Harvard.

Or he could go to Harvard and hire people to run his businesses while he's in school - sounds like a win-win to me.

Why vote Harvard? Wouldn't you lose control? and training to become a better employee for a top 50 corporation, thus becoming trapped in a your time = money non-passive lifestyle?

I think he should continue to work on his business. Most people say that business school is a waste of time and you learn more by being hands on and reading books. His business is already making a name for itself and its successful. Although he could meet great people at Harvard and brag about the fact that he went there but, why give up everything that your controlling now and succeeding in just to say I went to Harvard to become a slowlaner again? Common sense would tell him to stay building his business. And by the looks of him making a voting poll/blog out of this and to also advertise his business shows he understands the fastlane mindset but the sound of going to Harvard is making him think maybe he will be missing this "great slowlane opportunity".

    Anyone agree?

I think Boston(Harvard/MIT) is a good startup hub, so he'd have easy access to angels and VCs (but he probably does already, so...)
I don't think he intends to get a job, he's probably going to drop out midway.
Besides, "I went to Harvard" still sounds very cool.

EDIT : Disregard what I said, I didn't know that he applied to biz school and not college
This might be a publicity stunt as bernieshawn said. I can't see him going to business school ever if he already has two startups going.

This right here would be one of the main reasons I'd choose Harvard. Because everyone knows that to be a billionaire business tycoon, you must attend Hardvard and drop out senior year (Gates and Zuckerface)

Actually, both Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard after their freshmen years. One guy made a good comment in the techcrunch article. He said that he should go to Harvard for one day then drop out. Then he can always say, "I'm a Harvard dropout", when he goes to raise money from venture capitalists. That will make their ears perk up because of the success that other Harvard dropouts have had.

Agree, but not everyone is Bill Gates. He's in my avatar for a reason.

I would vote for Harvard. Sounds like an excellent move for an entrepreneur who wishes to have an edge.

While in my undergrad, I asked my good friend, "Why am I going to College?" (Since I made more in the first quarter of that year than what most of the Ph.D'rs did who were teaching the classes) He replied, "college is for networking." Whether you're looking for money people, skills people, slow laners, or sidewalkers; college is a huge pool of people who are looking to make themselves better. Besides, all of us on this forum who are in the Fastlane or on our way, we all NEED People... We can't do it by ourselves.

College is the best place to start your life in the Fastlane. Your resources are endless there. Go to Harvard. Enjoy it. And while your in there, start thinking of ideas, and when you need help on your idea, your in the right place to receive it, College.
