    Default Logo Designs $99

For those of you that are starting a business and looking to have a LOGO designed, 99Designs is offering a new service - a selection of 4,000+ of their designs for you to choose from & have your business name put on it for $99.

A pretty good deal in my opinion for a small business starting out (especially if you're on a small budget).

I just had a logo professionally designed on 99Designs last month, I think I paid $300 + fees.

    Hope this helps!

Just want to point out; the point of having a logo is to brand yourself. However, if 10 other people share your logo, what's the point? A $99 logo is not the answer. To get the logo exclusive, 99Designs wants an additional $199. So the real cost is $298 ... still a decent deal. In NO WAY do I advocate buying a $99 logo because there's a chance it won't be exclusive and unique -- the entire purpose behind a logo is to brand-build and carve out your unique identity.

I agree with this statement as well.

But if you're in a business like mine, where it's small and local, very little opportunity for scalability, and you're just using the business as a means to build up capital (not a Fastlane business), a simple $99 / $298 logo could be beneficial. Certainly better than no logo at all or choosing a generic logo from the clip art available at Kinkos / OfficeMax.

I took a look at those designs and not many appeal to me. I didn't think $99 was a very good deal either. Those designs are so generic I would rather have a clean text logo than a logo with a generic clip art or shape next to it.

I had a few logos made for me for $15 and they were suprisingly good considering they were probably done by a couple folks from India. Try starting a contest on digital point for a logo, pay $15-$20 and see what you get!

What is digital point? I tried digital point (dot) com, and it appears to be some sort of hosting / software service, this probably isn't the same place you're talking about.

Could you provide a link to where someone can start a contest there? Thanks.

$15-$20 is an awesome deal for a logo, if it's decent quality; thanks for the tip!

You guys should check out The Logo Mat. I have personally used this company, and they are very creative and listen to feedback. Original artwork for each logo; no clip art junk. $150 for 4 proposals and unlimited revisions. Much better deal.

When I did logos, it was $1k retainer, and $50/hour.

In my opinion, if you're just doing a logo because you feel like you need one, just go with some stylized text, and maybe a little vector graphic. I use stuff like that when I'm just starting a project and want something professional looking, but not spend any money on it.

Just look at Microsoft. Their corporate logo hasn't changed for quite a while, and all it is, is stylized text.

However, if you're looking for brand to be a huge part of what you're doing, invest the time and money. Think about all of the ways you're going to be flushing money down the tubes, if you focus on branding with an indistinguishable logo.

Bottom line, if you really need it, do it all the way. If you are just doing it so you can have something cool on the business card you show your friends, just stylize some text and put up a vector. It'll still look "professional".

99designs.com and crowdspring.com are very very useful websites for entrepreneurs on a tight budget -- many graphic designers don't like them though.

What I recommend is run a contest, find the graphic designer that has the same vision as you, and work with them from then on. Saves you posting fees and you can give them a little less then the usual prize because it is a guarantee payment for them.

99 Designs can be a very useful site but you have to watch out for copyright issues. You can see an example of someone who tried to pass off Hello Kitty as their own design on logocontests.net . I would of posted the link but I do not have enough posts to post links.

From looking at the logos they have made, im 90% sure they simply use a program called "The Logo Creator" by Laughingbird software. All those sample logos would take about 5 minutes on that program.

I used 99 designs once for a small logo for a blog. It worked, in that I got my logo done.

The problem was: I was trying to communicate my vision for the logo in a few sentences, and it was clear the people designing for the contest didn't care.

So, I got what I paid for. A usable, but not very good logo.

I won't be going back for anything more serious, but for a quick sketch up for a simple project.... yeah, it works out ok enough.

Thanks for the recommendation I bookmarked the site. I like drawing logos myself then just hiring a graphic artist to make it digital.

I recently found a designer in NY who I really liked and paid $1k for our logo. the cheaper route might work for some, but if you intend to build a brandmark to tie to your product, I suggest going with an artist that you like and paying the extra buck.

    Hey guys and gals,

I'm in a similar position and need a logo designed for my online fashion business. I've been researching logo design companies on the net, but of the seemingly millions of choices available, how do I choose which service to go with?

I've clicked on the links throughout this thread and there seem to be some skilled designers amongst us. Does anyone have any direct experience dealing with those posting their willingness here? Furthermore, does anyone have any recommendations from personal dealings with companies out there?

I've searched on google for custom logo design and so far these are the standout options based on my price range:

    crea8ivedesign dot com

$99 for 1 logo, 4 concepts, unlimited revisions

    thelogoloft dot com

    $99 for 1 logo, 1 concept, 1 revision

    logobench dot com

    $99 for 1 logo, 2 concepts, 1 revision

    logo-genie dot com

$89 for 1 logo, 2 concepts, unlimited revisions

    logomonsters dot net

$49 for unlimited logos, unlimited concepts, unlimited revisions

Based on the work shown, they appear to have the skill required to create the logo I have in my head, but I put it to you, has anyone out there dealt with any of these companies or can you suggest any others that you've dealt with personally? If so, can you tell me what exactly you liked/disliked about them?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam.

The best that I have come across is on fiverr, I got one designer who was extremely good, who designed me a logo with psd files, favicons and more for $5! If you stated what you wanted to 20 people on there, and get them to do a unique logo, then the likelyhood, with 20 providers, that one will come up with something you like!

I've used LogoNerds for a couple of my websites and they have been terrific. They ask you what you have in mind, they design three, you choose. If you don't like any, they keep designing until you like something.

They also do banners, business cards, and many other things. I suggest you check them out.

You can get a discount by going here.

What do you guys think of these logos?

I'm freelancing on elance, but it's a pain getting a job since we are new.
