I just received a quote from a company that wants to do a SMS campaign for my business. I forget who is the one to talk to about these types of campaign so I apologize if I am cluttering the forum with these questions!
Cost is approx. $1800 for them to set up a number such as 770777 and you text "karate" or something to that and it gives us their info to call them. Would be great for us I think, but the price seems a little high...
Any experts in this field?

Hey Steve -
If you do a search in the archives, there has been at least one other thread on using SMS and the costs.
$1800 is a little bit high if there are ongoing service/maintanence/recurring costs as well, but assuming they will manage all the technology and the interface pieces, it's in the right ballpark.
As a benchmark, if you wanted to register the number yourself, build and manage the application yourself, and deal with all the security audits and certifications, you could probably do it for about $500-1000 per year (up to some relatively small number of sent/received messages).
So, they are marking up the service about 100% for doing all the application development, certification, and management, which seems reasonable.
As a disclaimer, I've been out of the industry for over a year now, so it's possible prices have changed a lot since then...so don't base your decision on just my answer above...
