Isn't it funny how it only takes one word to convey a strong message. Good post![]()
In Santa Monica, California, Audi posted a billboard advertising their new car with a smug "Your Move BMW."
How did BMW respond?
By purchasing billboard space right next to Audi's billboard which advertised their own new car with one word: "Checkmate."
That's the ultimate move for the ultimate driving machine.
Here's the full story including a pic of the billboards:

Great story, Jon.
When in a competitive business, you always need to ask the question, "How will my competitors respond to this?"
As the article points out-- if you forget to ask this question, you're dead.

I think it was well thought out. For a casual car lover, I follow these two pretty closely. Spec to spec, Audi might have an edge but it is debatable over the lines that they offer in each class. I know Audi wins "Best in Whatever" the majority, if not all the time.
BMW is just that though, a BMW. They don't even refer to their product as a car. It is the "ultimate driving machine." I mean, that alone is just crazy.
Audi, in my opinion, thought it all the way through. However, your competitor can come with a move that you could have planned all year for but there was just nothing in the playbook to defend that play.
Great post by the way. In a better personal world, I would own one of each.
