    Default "Home Runs" versus "Singles"

"it doesn't matter how many times you strike out in business because you only have to be right once, and that "once" can set you up for life In other words, be in the business of home runs." - FLM

so I've been thinking about this lately and I do understand the above quote but at the same time trying to go for the homerun without the basic necessities/surviving is scary. I guess it's a balance like in the beginning when MJ was working on his limo website, he would make other websites for clients if ends didn't quite meet.

It feels good to work on "singles" because it's a quick payoff for my work but of course it's not fastlane. It's important to have the bigger/long term picture always in view.

    Your thoughts?

Go big. Risk big. Dare to fail. You can always get back up off the mat. Learn to not let fear or analysis paralysis be part of your decision making process. I don't use words like scary any more, because having bounced off the ropes a few times, you learn that the worst case scenario is not that bad.

I agree with Vigilante. It's the same concept that Sun Tzu taught us in the Art Of War. Put yourself on "Death-Ground", where you must kill or be killed, or to "burn the boats" so to speak. There is a reason The Art Of War is still recommended reading for our US Marine Corps even though it's 2,500 years old...

Aim for home runs, but sometimes it's hard to know which ideas are bunts and which are out of the ball park. Whatever idea you go with, just focus on that one idea. You're better off having one "double" idea and putting all your efforts into it than having 4 home run ideas and trying to focus on all of them.

Just get up to the plate is what I have learned. A single or a home run either way you get a run, which is a hell of a lot more than most get. Most never off the bench.

Hey MJ - Do you still have the B&P 09 video where you talked about hitting home runs? In my opinion, that was by far the best Fastlane video you've ever made, I'd love to see it again. Thanks man.

Home runs or singles and everything in the middle is good. It's the strike outs that you want to avoid!

Not sure how anyone can answer this question when the OP has not defined what his definition of homerun and single is.

So OP what is your what is your definition of homerun?

    Single?

Hi, sorry for the late response, I had turned off subscriptions.

I reread my post in Feb and realized that it was just me being a pussy. It was hard at the time but I have finally been able to get some traction and things are looking better.

    Patrick, here are my def:
Singles (gigs) - no potential for big cash but easier to make money with as it's lower risk
Home Runs (your own business) - potential for big cash but harder to make money with in the beginning b/c it's higher risk.

I know there are some flaws to how I'm defining these terms basically what it comes down to is this:
    Risk big, win big
Can't reach fastlane without taking risks (calculated of course)

It's alright to do singles here and there to get yourself going but always remember the ultimate goal is the Homerun

What I mean about "home runs" is simply to be on a field where they can be hit. Singles are totally cool if you're hitting them on a home-run field.

Perfect example: The TMF book. When I sell (1) book, that is effectively a single. String enough singles together, and they become a home run. Additionally, a home run can be hit simply because it is possible ... say for example, Marc Cuban suddenly endorses or recommends my book, that would probably turn the book into an *overnight* homerun. Or, say a new billionaire entrepreneur 3 years from now says that his inspiration was "this book I read years ago" which turns out to be TMF.

I can effectively move a million books without much issue. I am playing on a FULL field.

When you're doing 3 massages a day as a massage therapist, you're not playing on a full, homerun field. Nothing can happen to enhance scale unless you change the field.
