Default choosing a "name" or "brand" any suggestions?

So its got to the point where i have to seriously consider the name of the product i am creating. Just got back from a meeting with a client, and a "series" of short videos are now officially in the works to help promote the website and over the next few months i will be needing to order stickers, key rings, banners, car decals, not to mention actually register the business.

So .. the NAME .. big topic and could potentially make or break my website before its even begun..

    first

    What is my Product
it is a social networking website for the niche of Cars (think facebook for car enthusiasts, and car clubs) where users can sign up with their car make and model(s) along with their location and it will (based on user generated content) connect that user with others with the same car make/model/generation and within the same area, or as apart of the same club / forums, showing "shouts" other people and clubs have posted, car clubs, meets, events, blogs and everything car related with the goal to be the "facebook" of the car scene, while also acting as an "active" directory for all car meets, events and clubs.

    What i need
I need a memorable, self explanatory, short and easy to type/spell URL... something that has not already been taken (.com) and does not require any hyphens or dashes etc.

    What i have so far
honestly, its a little embarrassing, but it gets the idea across .. its called "CarClubbed.com" at the moment, of which most of the feedback has been mostly negative (wasn't a huge fan myself to be honest when i first heard it.) but had done its job up until now when i need to lock it down.

    Help
So, I'm looking for either flat out suggestions, or services (websites) that will help me generate a good website/company name

    One more thing
I plan to scale this website into the Bike community also, so ideally the name has to be interchangeable with bikes or broad enough to encompass bikes within the same name.

thanks roark, been doing this the last hour now lol, for some reason CarClubbed is still sticking for me, what are your guys opinion on the existing name, I feel that its "dorkyness" kinda works for it as it doesn't try to be "cool" and makes you repeat the name in contemplation, or at least it did me when i first heard it.

You want honest or kind? Pick one

It's a name that makes a bad first impression, but could be not so bad if you spin it in a funny angle.
You have it registered already, so go for it - what I do is register two brands and then start with the weaker one just in case my half-baked launch product damages the brand in any way. I can then after some time 8when it's all fixed and running smoothly) just 301 and bring forward the stronger brand.

Have you researched the .me domains?

Carclubbed makes me think of what happens to seals. That being said, my first instinct was carmunity.com but it seems to be a German telecommunications site lol

been trying to think of something that sounds "official" as i have to convince a lot of existing community's and networks to sign up to the website before launch...

something like "the car scene" ? but I'm not 100% on it, sounds a little mundane.
I want something that suggests all car owners are connected without being a "club" as i want the focus to be the clubs that sign up onto the website, not the website being a "club" of its own, but more a means to connect all of the clubs together.

/me goes back to word hunting

Why not think from outside the box and take CAR out of the suffix...i think it will give u more leverage on what you are looking for.

honestly IMO this is just procrastination, pick it and go. Craigslist started out as craigslist.org

craigslist itself was a terrible name of no meaning and it had the .org

i would avoid spelling things, and the only thing that truly matters is when:

mike calls up dan and says wow man you have to check out razorsedge dot com

    mike: what a sick site....

dan: wait razers, razors, or you said razor? s or no s... mike you there??

i like two common words combined the most.

easy to tell other people on phone or in person
    fastlane forum.... two common words
    amazon ... one simple word
    network solutions.

im not favoring any of these but just making the point they are easy to tell others, and considering your website is for car enthusiasts, when guys are standing around in a parking lot looking under hoods i think that is the most important for you... word of mouth

I have personally seen people give up after not finding the site due to spelling, so that would be my real main concern.

Here are some top sites in the US with crappy names to show its not imperative. Make a decision and go with it dont sit on this too long.

    craigslist.org
    merriam-webster.com
    ezinearticles.com
    city-data.com

dont be any of these either

    Hey CrysAk

One point to add in naming is to consider how people think in terms of language.

The phonological loop in the brain is a great example.

To play to this feature of how names sound, names with a repetitive sound such as alliteration or rhyming are more memorable.

A great easy to understand video to summarise this concept is by Eben Pagan, starts at 1minute 18 …

Ok, first I think you need to let go of the word car since you are planning on adding bikes into the mix, it may send mix signals. How about comotion? Here are a group of words that I like that might help.
    Club
    Group
    Gathering
    Wheels
    drive
    Road
    Motion
    go
    Troop
    Mass
    gang
Maybe you could use fastlane but I think you would need permission form MJ first, lol

dont do bikes now and leave it carclubbed. Just get some REAL users first, then you can do whatever you want MJ changed the name of this forum like 3 times. Add bikes later then change the name or something, just get something going now stop wasting time, right now today, what did you accomplish. There are VC's out there with massive capital on your back and everyone elses on the internet, i would say "get to work" but thats not true... so instead "produce tangible results today" basically get shit done.

lol don't worry the Biz, i've not just been sitting here all day twiddling my thumbs but know what you mean ^^ (FWIW I'm neck deep in mysql and pushing forward the video while this is happening :P)

regarding the name i have had that attitude since day one, push forward with it and worry about it when the time comes, however that time is getting closer (sooner than expected!) so want to take into consideration the name change one last time before the launch due to the negative first impressions i've got so far.
