Default Advice Needed In Blog(s) Direction

    Hey fastlaners,
Need a little help on a decision. I have a current blog attached to Freelanceful at http://blog.freelanceful.com (right now it's about Internet Business and Marketing in general, plus of course Freelanceful company news)

I want to do a blog specifically and only talking about Web Apps with topics on marketing, design, creating, monetizing, business stuff, bootstrapping, etc. I would also like to get my personal name out there and raise my personal brand up some (a sidebar profile and quick 'about' bio on the blog).

Question is: Should I setup a Web App blog on it's own domain (webappkeyword.com) or do it on Freelanceful's blog?

    Own domain at webappkeyword.com
Pros - More targeted and focused blog (so the visitors that do come will convert higher to subscribers and fans rather than seeing a company blog that talks about web apps every now and then), more keyword link juice for rankings, can make it clear the blog is provided by me and not so much Freelanceful's brand

Cons - Will lose the awareness that any visitor coming to Freelanceful's blog will have (like if a visitor comes to Freelanceful's blog reading SEO stuff, they'll at least be exposed to the word Freelanceful)

    Doing it on Freelanceful's blog
Pros - Makes Freelanceful's name and brand much more prominent (hard to miss when it's in the url) which leads to higher conversions to Freelanceful

Cons - Diluted focus on web app topic, hard to brand myself

Actually; after writing out the Pros/Cons of each, I may be leaning towards the Webappkeyword.com but that brings up another question:

What type of content other than Company News should I put on the Freelanceful blog?

Anyways; opinions, thoughts, and advice are definitely welcome.

    Thanks!
    - James F.

    James,

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this new blog. I don't want you to get sidetracked from Freelanceful which looks like it could be really promising. I'd say work on this when you've gotten Freelanceful off the ground. You know that it'll still be there when you get done.

    Hey @livebig
Thanks for the suggestion. I am not looking to make money off this blog or spend more than 2-3 hours a week, so maybe 1-2 posts a week for leisurely purposes and mental release from a build up of thinking through out the week of work. (something other than intense computer work)

Definitely still rocking with Freelanceful. But I forgot to mention the blog will, of course, still target potential customers for Freelanceful (people that are more likely to get or need web work done) but the links back to Freelanceful will be a bit more subtle compared to the blog.freelanceful.com one.

Ah, well, give it a go if you think it won't split up your time too much.

Nice suggestion! This got my head churning; I am thinking of keeping everything very in focus to two or three subjects that directly relate to possible users:

    Entrepreneurship & Making Money Online
    - Types of online business (lead generation, AdSense, etc.)
    - Marketing
    - Conversions
    - Etc.

    Outsourcing
    - How to pick freelancers
    - What to look for
    - Best qualities
    - Questions to ask
    - Etc.

    Freelancing Lifestyle
    - Home office topics
    - How to get jobs
    - Selling yourself
    - Etc.

    Company News
    - Announcements
    - Maintenance

-maybe reviews of different freelancers (maybe thats something some freelancers would pay for, to be featured)
    -maybe advanced tutorials
-maybe interviews with successful freelancers- Sort of like a how did you do it type thing.

I would separate the blog from your main gig. if your only doing it as a place holder, and occasional posting... then it wont hurt if you dont post enough, and if you use it later as a app area, then it could be worth your time later...

as for posting on your regular blog, you should read curation nation, and do some curation posts as well. if huffington post can do it, you can too.
