Hi all. I know you're business-minded folks, and as such probably are very quid pro quo about things. All I can offer on my side is that doing this you will have done a good deed and become known by (literally) a few more people.

I need to 'interview' an entrepreneur for an introductory business course. One's participation would not need be very great, as you'll see below. If interested you would need only to sketch answers to the few questions, enough to give me an idea - or you could be more detailed if you desire your story to be told with utmost accuracy. Here are the questions/specifications:

Your interview must address at a minimum each of the topics below:

  • The Venture. This section addresses why, how, what and when. Why did the entrepreneur decide to go into business? Why this particular business? How did s/he do it? What is the main product or service provided by the business? When was the business started?
  • Struggles and Challenges. Difficult issues and/or challenges the business owner has faced, how these were overcome, and what new challenges s/he faces.
  • Risks and Rewards.
  • Learning on the Journey. What the owner has learned about business and life on this entrepreneurial journey, including any advice on starting and running a business.
  • Your Own Learning. This section should address the insights, observations or lessons about business ownership you gained as a result of this interview and report.

Write the report in narrative form. Do not simply list the questions and answers. Identify the entrepreneur, the name of the business, and the location. Your report should be 3-4 pages long, not including a cover page and/or references.

The assignment will be graded on the quality and thoroughness of your interview, how well you addresses the topics related to the business owner and his/her venture, and the level of analysis demonstrated in linking your findings to concepts covered in this course.

So that's the assignment. I would be greatly, eternally appreciative if anyone here chose to participate and help me out. It might even be fun. As I said, if you choose to help, you'd only have to sketch the relevant answers. I'd write the vast majority of the material. Thanks simply for reading. If anyone is interested, I'd need it by the end of the day Friday (the assignment being due by the end of the day Sunday). Thanks again. Get in touch via PM if interested.

lol, what? Seriously you give us a list of questions, and you completely ignore the two, couple word answer questions posed to you? How do you expect anyone here to give you their time if you don't even give us 10 seconds of yours?

Feel free to contact me for an actual interview. THAT is what your assignment is, not just place your questions for us to answer. Go through this forum and find the people that interest you and actually contact them. Then YOU ask the questions and then listen.

Lesson One: DO the assignment if you want to learn.

Folks...I need your help.

I'm hunting for the world's largest toilet.

I'm also looking for a REALLY big roll of toilet paper.

I don't expect to have to do any of this work myself.

I've already done enough by finding what I feel is the world's biggest a**hole.

Well, no one offered to help. That's about as expected. Good luck in your endeavors.

PS BTW, PWT3, in just 2 posts, you have demonstrated a phenomenal lack of respect, courtesy, and (to top it off), due diligence. Prepare to be insulted:

May you be an employee for the rest of your natural life. :smxB:

(either that, or get off your *ss and start acting like the entrepreneur you aspire to be).

WOW-- just noticed you're 25, not 13. Here I thought your immaturity was due to being in middle school. You're in Grad School? I'm flabbergasted. :nonod:

Thanks, Bobbo.

Y'know, it just hit me: The OP actually told us they were pathetic, up front:

"Anyone want to help a POOR STUDENT?"

Here I thought they were referring to their financial situation-- when in fact it appears that they're just a lousy student.

I hope you continue to get crappy grades-- if you decide to actually go out into the world of business, you'll find out quickly that spending 10 minutes writing a heartfelt appeal, then copy-pasting your professor's assignments count for diddly winks on the street.

You need to actually WORK.

And THINK.

And treat others w/respect.

Or maybe they were complaining about the terrible idea of having to do an assignment in the first place :p

Guys, remember to remind me to post up my assignment questions (as well as the criteria) as I'd also like some help in the near future writting 2000+ word essays.

OP can easily just walk to the any small business owner and ask questions. Clearly a lazy student who doesn't care or wants to just cruise college.

Nothing wrong with cruising college. I guess my motto in life is 'to do things properly'.

When I go to college, I make sure I'm learning.
When I go out for outings, I make sure I'm having fun/socialising.
When I go on a holiday to a country, I make sure I enjoy my holiday actively and visit every area NOT just doing what is expected.
When I get a customer, I make sure he/she is getting the best of service.

I hate leaving tasks half done or not done to it's potential.

It's just the habit I've gotten into, all about quality to me not quantity.

I think what he meant, was that there isn't much of value to be learned from most college courses, so why bother?

School of hard knocks and real world experience is so much more valuable. Anything you ever want to, or need to learn is available either online, or in a book.

I remember taking an entrepreneurship major and the teacher was an idiot preaching slowlane mentalities. I told him so, and then left the room and never returned.

That sums up my college experience.

I'm probably going to go back to University (I'm getting a free ride... and I don't try), only because I eventually want to run my own hedge fund.

I'll probably just go through the motions of a philosophy or arts degree... I don't really care. No one ever asks you what your marks were, so if you get a 4.0 or just make it by, it makes no difference.

That being said, if I wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, or some kind of other professional, then obviously I'd take it seriously.

I'd rather just trade full time during the day, and attend class occasionally.

I guess my course is an accounting major which helps with understand financial and law side of business.

But it does help to get momentum when it comes to doing things to the best of your abilities.

I'm sure even if your doing any course will help improve communications skills.

I was sent an e-mail update about this thread. I guess I'd subscribed to it. I'm sort of glad I did, since the one a**hole capitalist douchebag who called me a lazy student and preached the virtues of learning to do things "the right way" made a half dozen basic grammatical errors in his series of replies. It's nice to be able to pop back in and point out that he's obviously quite a lazy student himself, and in something fundamental - basic English. I wish you all happy holidays, and by that of course I mean cancer. Cancers for cancers, that's what I always say. Keep trading those stocks!

And I got a high A on the assignment, which I turned into a creative writing assignment. Your lack of help was not at all surprising, considering the sort of person one must be to start his own business or be a member of a forum such as this one. You're all terrible, terrible people. You're ruining the planet. Live Long and prosper!

Note: edited, but he pretty much said the opposite.

And this is exactly why our country is in this situation. 95% of the population just want it all without the work. And when they don't get what they want they complain and blame everyone else except THEMSELVES. (Victim mentality)
Your 26 and your wishing people here to get cancer? Wow, I can see that college and the college experience has made you a mature individual.

And honestly that A doesn't mean jack in the real world. Clearly the business world is not for you because you tried once, failed and blamed everyone else.

Yup, we are all terrible people, we are the people of this country that start businesses to provide value and services to others. Have fun climbing that ladder for the rest of your life and when you look up all you'll see is someone's :bartmoon:

Good Luck! :propeller:

Where do these morons come from?

As a person living with cancer, all I can say is Go F*ck Yourself. Watching your body deteriorate and the emotional issues that come with it is something I'd never wish on anyone.

The world does not revolve around the USA or the English language. Perhaps the person in question is from another country? Perhaps that person is far too busy actually DOING SOMETHING than to care about something so minor. In any case, I quickly read through the thread and I see few mistakes in anyone's posts. Grow the F*ck up.

We are terrible people? Without innovators we'd still be living in the dark ages. Do you use lightbulbs? What fuel do you put into your car? Where did that car come from? Who's responsible for the food that you purchase at the grocery store? Who owns that grocery store? Do you go to a for-profit school? Then you're currently getting educated thanks to investors/innovators like us.

I pity you and your existence. I'd wish you good luck, but I quite honestly couldn't care less.

For me college was a waste of time and money. Others think the degree is more valuable than it is, but who am I to dissuade them of that opinion?

Best regards.

People have always been odd, but now they can simply say it while hidding behind their computers.

Funny. The OP was about a real interview, but when he couldn't make it happen he made it up and got an "A" for fictional/creative writing.

Nothing wrong with cruising through college, in my opinion. Although I don't call cheating cruising.

It's better to put yourself in a schooling situation where you would not be tempted to cruise in the first place. I don't know why all the kids think they have to have some degree, when they're obviously not interested in getting anything.

This isn't a dig on you Ryan, it sounds like you have a goal, albeit kind of confusing, unless the arts or philosophy bit is 'A tack on course they make you take'.

It's more a complaint about the people who think "I have to go to college!", go, don't have any idea what they want out of it, pick what's easy, then wonder why they have tens of thousands in debt and no degree that'll get them anywhere. And/or go for a degree (For a career they want to pursue and need the paper for) but drop out.

...

The subject of cheating is an even bigger Pandora's box than cruising.

Well essentially if you want to run a hedge fund (and get serious investors) you'd need some kind of a degree. George Soros (one of my ultimate heroes) has a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy, Peter Thiel studied 20th century philosophy as an undergraduate at Stanford University, Timothy Sykes studied at Tulane University receiving a major in Philosophy, Louis Bacon attended Middlebury College where he studied literature, etc.

What I'm basically saying is that this is standard practice in the industry that I want to ultimately make my living in (loosely regulated hedge funds).

I don't want to be an entrepreneur. Of course I would skip school all together if I did.
