    Default MJ vs vbulletin

I am getting this huge yellow message about hatie for vbulletin.

I'm not sure what your gripe is, but I run vbulletin for multiple forums and I'Ve tried many other alternatives. IMO vbulletin is still the best, as long as you don'T install too many hacks/addons... or you don't upgrade major versions (like going from 3.x to 4.x)

vbulletin hosts most of the biggest and most visited forums online, they must be doing something right.

Can you imagine saying something like Toyota Camry's are the best as long as you stick with the 2006 model?

In a few years the people running on 3.x will have old software with no where to go. Why would you put yourself in that situation?

    I like 4.x

what I'm saying is that going from 3.x to 4.x is not easy, not in terms of data, but layout.
normally, you need to revamp the templates before migrating the data... if you think it's a ont button process, then you'll end up with a totally screwed layout as 4.x was completely re-written.

there are so many forums on vbulletin, users know how it works, the search button location,e tc. plus there are somany features.

I think you answered your own question.

Great, then keep using it. If you don't run a completely custom forum then you'll have no problem with the Stylevars and template changes. I've decided that this shitty software won't steal anymore of my time "fixing" customizations that need to be fixed/cross-compared every time a new version comes available (Which is like every FN 3 weeks). Other than Xenforo, most forum software solutions continue to be stuck in 1999.

In reference to the other thread....
The newer versions are improvements but the old "you can't put lipstick on a pig" applies. IMO, the company needs to dump the entire platform at start anew, and with something that is Web 2.0/mobile friendly instead of trying to charge customers for something that should be standard, like their "mobile solution" ... personally, it's like a buying a car and being told, for an extra $2,000, we will install a heater! (We all know, the heater should be standard.)

There's nothing wrong with the new forum look, I actually prefer it to the old one. It's not as aesthetic but much easier to navigate and a smaller footprint overall. I think designers sometimes work on their designs so much that they forget how overwhelming their accumulated changes become to regular users

Design and feel of this forum was the coolest ever, hopefully you have a backup of all the cool grafix MJ.

My friend pays expensively for IPB forum, and is very dissatisfied with them too, careless and slow support.

Until a superb forum platform comes (btw. I plan on creating one but not too soon) - I think free options may
be worth looking at - at least you can have full control over what goes on.

Here's a site that lists and compares lots of forums, maybe there's some hidden gem:

I like both, just the adsense is annoying... I don't mind TMF ads or even products that MJ endorses, but adsense... bah
