MJ, what exactly is the purpose of the "I disapprove" option when repping someone? So you decided to rep someone, your write the reason but if you disprove why is it that you're trying to rep that person in the first place?
No, leave rep as is -- vote on good posts only without having an option to vote negatively.
Yes, turn negative rep on - I want to leave negative rep as well as good.
Turn the system off entirely.

I'll let MJ answer for himself.
For me-- every once in a great while on these forums, I read a post/thread that is so ANTI fastlane (not proactive, not solution-oriented, or borderline political, or just a post that is inflammatory, but doesn't really seek to help others), that it actually makes me mad. Here's an example.
At that moment in time, I'd love to "negative rep" the poster.
But you know what?
Doing that only encourages those who thrive on negativity.
And it runs directly against the spirit of these forums-- which is to help others, and keep it positive-- and look at SOLUTIONS instead of PROBLEMS.
So that's why I'm against negative rep-- even if I want to zap someone's *ss every now and then!

The "Disapprove" option is for admin's only ... apparently, folks on the "welcome crew" had the option to neg rep someone ... that is a config oversight on my part.
I've since fixed it; thanks for bringing it to my attention.

lol j/k
Thanks for fixing this MJ![]()

Ha Ha ... yea, I wasn't aware of that little mistake ... none of the other folks told me!

I'm a bit confused, does the "speed this post" increase your speed?
Click for large view - Uploaded with Skitch
and it doesn't seem congruent that your "vehicle" coninsides with post count, I've seen some with hundreds of posts, driving a "(5) Pontiac" - how's it work?![]()

Yes, it increases your speed.
I think there is confusion between the Thanks and Rep speed. Maybe kill one or the other?

I'd go with that. I think it's confusing to have both of them.
I don't think anyone uses speed. I try to speed other members when they say something useful and thank them, but it seems like everyone prefers to "thank me". I've been posting for a year now and still don't have access to the private forum haha
I'm glad this is being discussed....I have never been "sped"![]()
What are the rep speeds broken down by points? I saw a list on here once, but I can't recall where exactly it was.
It was my understanding that rep speed grows (when someone gives you speed, of course) because you've demonstrated growth in your knowledge and personal understanding in your personal fastlane journey. I've understood that the rep speed is indicative of your mental growth on your fastlane path. It's psychological, more than anything. At first, I believed it indicated how close you are in dollars to being a millionaire, but I've long since abandoned that concept.
Thanks, at least to me, have always spoken for themselves and it has always been clear to me the difference between a "thanks" and "rep speed". But I only speak for me.
Am I wrong about that perception on rep speed, All?
No, I understand how the system works, I'm just wondering how the speeds and rep points correlate.
Ex: 25 rep points = 5 mph, 100 rep points = 10 mph, and so on and so forth. I know that MJ posted the list somewhere on the forum, but I can't figure out where he had posted it. I think it would be good to have that list in the FAQ or something to encourage people to rep. I speed+ other people all the time, but I don't have many points, so my add reps are worth like nothing. Haha.
