On most forums, necromancy is frowned upon and bumping a topic without adding meaningful content is even more despised. Of course a forum administrator can do whatever he pleases, so please don't take this as criticism and ban my butt. But regardless, it does set a bad example.
How funny. Diora joined, asked a question and told us how bad bumping things looked, and got 2 pretty thoughtful responses.

But Diora then never acknowledged those replies (also considered good forums etiquette pretty much everywhere), or even came back (the day he/she joined was the only day he/she was here).

Humma humma. Guess they really didn't like the bumpin' thang!

Well, I'm willing to learn from a thoughtful response, and also willing to keep my mouth shut when I have nothing useful to contribute. But since you asked, here's a meaningless +1 for my post count. Thanks.

Thanks and acknowledgement of other's efforts aren't meaningless, Diora. So it takes a post (or thanks) to do that.

Off topic, I'm a bit surprised at the continued negative comments in your posts. I'm not trying to scare you away-- just surprised.

Most of the posts here tend to be pretty upbeat-- and the community tends to attract folks with that type of outlook.

Hoping you participate in things here-- and enjoy the community.

I do not completely understand this.

So if someone posts a thread and others reply providing useful information.

If one person posts something like 'ok good advice' or something similar, than that is smelling a spammer?

Well, a response like that doesn't mean spammer, but it's a completely useless reply on everyone count. If you have nothing to add, and simply post to say "I agree" it wastes everyones time (including the posters).

Simply clicking the thank button would be regarded as a better way to say "I agree" if you can't post something that atleast expands upon the post.

Alright so from your last post, if i wrote "I agree", then that would count as a spam?

Well instead of new users simple saying "i agree' or 'kiss my ass'. They should probably be posting something of value ,of course that is what this thread is about.

After all, this a FREE website, that can be life changing to many because it has very valuable information and you can post any question you have and will get many answers and possibly recommendations. And for people to spam on a website like this then they should be banned.

Just checking that I am doing the right thing.

I've just reported two new threads form first time posters that appeared to have nothing to do with this forum.

One was an "article" about a charity, and another a snippet about a business deal.

Should I report this sort of thing? I want to help out - keep the spammers and trouble makers out, but I don't want to become a pain for the mods.

    Thanks

No pain Nicola. We mods frequently allow the membership to tell us what is spam and what is not. This helps us measure if we are being fair or to heavy handed. Thanks for reporting.
