Mr. Doherty, who along with partner Skip Gibson owned a drugstore in an office building staffed largely with medical professionals, was asked by a dermatologist to create a cream that would be hypoallergenic, fragrance and free of additives. “I said I could probably do it,” recalls Mr. Doherty, who is the president of one of the country’s most successful grassroots brands.
