    Default 6 Rags-to-Riches Millionaires

"From Oprah Winfrey to Steve Jobs to J.K. Rowling, entrepreneurial success stories are the stuff from which American dreams are made. Much like these famous names, the six self-made millionaires we're profiling have one thing in common: Thanks to hard work, determination and sound advice from mentors, friends and family, they've been able to build thriving businesses from the ground up.

"The rise to the top can be bumpy. In fact, some of the entrepreneurs we talked to were homeless during the early years of their companies. That's why they all agree that it's important to help others in need. All, including Radio One's Catherine L. Hughes and Life is good co-founder Bert Jacobs, give back to the community by volunteering time, donating to charitable organizations or running their own charities.

"Learn how these six diverse entrepreneurs -- from a t-shirt designer to a media mogul -- turned meager beginnings into multimillion-dollar success and what advice they offer to budding business tycoons who hope to follow in their footsteps.

when you are "rag", you will try anything without fear of loosing.
aside from those 6, ther emight be thousands that failed and are poorer than poor.

when you already have a decent job, you need to calculate the risk to try new ventures, because if you fail, you will end up below your initial starting level.

It's nice to see these rags to riches, but IMO that's not the same path that a lot of us are on, where we want to keep at least our current level.

Even MJ started from way low. If he had a $80k salary with a wife and kids nothing says he would've dropped everything to start his project.

being that you can only get inspired up to a certain extend about those rags to riches stories.

they have done great and really great accomplishments nontheless.

still, for me, and many people in my situation, it is not that much of an inspiration.

    that's all

To me, any stories of legitimate success are inspiring and motivating. I love seeing people better themselves no matter where their starting line was. The stories of the myriad methods of overcoming different challenges just adds more tools to my tool box. ++ speed Rickson.

The people with 80k, a wife and kids are afraid. They are ruled by fear. It's a matter of priorities. You have to choose between mediocrity and success.

Most people will settle for mediocrity and justify it with a wife, kids and an 80k salary. Meanwhile there are people who have the same things but changes their priority to open 5 hours a week to invest in real estate and within 3 years becomes a millionaire.

I don't like seeing the justification for mediocrity.
