Probably not a millionaire story quite yet, but they are definitely toying with a Fastlane track...

Sometimes it's just a simple idea...
    Take a look at http://www.awesomenessreminders.com/ .
The guy came to Hacker News a month ago asking for a review of his project...
Now he has more than 1000 customers paying $10/month just to be reminded how awesome they or friends/family are...
    Isn't that cool?

I like this: "he was told off by people telling him to spend more time on his projects or nothing would ever take off "

    Yeah!
I wanted to add the other similar sites to Elance.com

    I've also used RentACoder.com
    GetAFreelancer.com
    ScriptLance.com
    Odesk.com

Got bit once a couple of years back... yet it was a good learning experience.
I've used these sites a couple of times, and it always delivers.
Very "internet future" (we're finally here!).

Wow, I love reading stories like this. These are the most motivating for myself... Young guys with little startup money getting these going while working their 9-5. Very similar to my situation.

    Advertising...
They offer the apps for free to create a huge user base then on each app they put ads. They also can put your ad so you can reach millions of users...
And with that they can up sell their ebook...
    Clever concept....

These outsourcing sites have actually been a good source for quality service providers but are also in a risk of ending up with people that can’t get the job done or leave half way through a project. This is because some quality service providers are not good. Found this blog that has the best info on outsourcing overseas:

I personally have done 3-4 projects using Elance. 3 successful (small projects), and 1 large which was horribly an epic failure.

What a great idea! I'm all about positive business models and this one is fantastic and so simple. (In regards to the business of calling people to tell them that they are awesome.)

I consulted with him because I started a service before he started his and the little shit didn't compensate me or thank me. What a joke.

I think that was a great idea! It would take a lot of your time but it's better than a job. I wonder how it's going now? Did it scale/grow? I love crazy ideas like this. I was touched by the surprise and joy in the people's voice who received the call in the sample calls. They sounded genuine.

Depends on their hourly price and the time it would take to build the app. You'll want to speak with them and ask for a quote. Or just estimate how long you believe it will take. If the person charges 12 and hour and you estimate 10 hours....Looking around $120

    birdem,

I apologize for any confusion. The number I threw out there was simply a random number to give you an example.

    As far as angry birds?

Your best option is to find a coder and request a quote. That can be done in less than 10 minutes.

    All the best

Birdem - It all depends on complexity, but (very ballpark figures) you will probably be looking at at least 50-75 hours in design and then at least 75-150 hours in coding if you want something done correctly.

How do you protect yourself from the programmers running away with your idea? So total you are saying in all it would be around 250 hours tops. I have an idea from what awkwardpublic and you posted it looks like if I were to charge 12 bucks an hour for 250hrs it would be 3k. Once the program is fixed how do you put it up on the iphone apps downloads? I know alot of questions do you have a link where I should check out for more information on this stuff?
