    *********************************** Original Post **************************************

There has been some conversations about a potential cruise by the end of this year. I want to get this thread going to get a feeling of interest and ideas.

Just to get the conversation started, I think it is a great idea and this is what I have in mind:

    - Starting point: Somewhere in the east coast, a city with decent-prized airports
    - Duration: Less than 5 days (to accommodate cost and time availability of attendees)
    - After hurricane season (November maybe?)

    Example:
4 Day Bahamas from Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL

Orlando (port canaveral) - Freeport Bahamas - Nassau Bahamas - Port Canaveral

    Carnival Cruise Lines

    Ideas?
do we have enough time to pull this one off?

Let's get the infighting for locations/destinations/duration started

P.S. I don't have the time to organize all the details, but I am good enough to get it going with this thread.

I would vote for Eastern (Bahamas, Grand Turk) or Southern (Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Maarten) Caribbean itineraries. November may be tough with approaching holidays. September or October maybe?

    good points.

The concern with september is hurricane season... but maybe late september makes sense.

    More opinions?

Sooo funny. I've never seen the appeal to a cruise... just never wanted to spend my time on a gigantic, enclosed, in the middle of the ocean Resort.

However, I've always said that if I "had" to do a cruise, it would be Alaska.

I was going to suggest Vancouver - Alaska as well. Would be fun to have the fastlaners in my backyard for a change.

Although I have to confess I'm with ATW on the cruise thing, why would I go on vacation somewhere where there isn't a golf course?
Checks are the most boring purchase you'll ever make for your small business, but if you buy them from your bank, you're paying way too much. Order business checks online and save up to 75% off of bank prices.

Okay... since we are on the topic... I just don't get it and I want to....

I am just not a "resort" person. When I travel, I want to see the culture, meet the people, and experience the "real" place. I also want to avoid the tourist traps at all cost.

I'm sure I am missing something - and I would like to know what.
For those of you that like cruises - - - what is the appeal for you?

I've never been on a cruise. I thought that Caribbean cruises stopped at ports of call so you could get some local culture?

I lived in Jamaica for a year.
While I was there, my Grandparents took a cruise. I'm pretty sure the only reason they did is so that they could see me for an afternoon without making it seem like they were coming to see me. While they were at their stopped... I walked through the town with them.

Let me tell ya... The 1/2 day port call experience is NOT culture. It is the locals lined up stuff to sell at outrageous prices.

Funny, I've never been interested in an Alaskan cruise because I associate "cruise" with tropical destination and lot of sun-bathing and tropical libations.

I've done the islands, altho from a resort perspective. (My idea of "roughing it" is a long walk to the pool or slow room service!) And I've done a cruise. It's just a different style holiday.

While I don't LOVE cruises, I've always enjoyed the ones I've been on because:

    • It's a great trip for a group, because you can be together every night for dinner if you wish, but split up and have totally different days.
    • It's totally self-contained. Virtually NO planning goes into it. They have so many things available, you don't have to "book a tour" or get dinner reservations or other type of activity. VERY low mainenance.
    • There's something for everyone. If you want to lie by the pool by yourself and read with your Pina colada for 6 hours/day. Fine. Your sig other can be shooting skeet off the back of the boat while your best friend is in an aerobics class, her husband is taking a Tango class, and your kids are at Limbo Camp.
    • You get to see different ports of call, even if for a day, to explore a new place without having to "commit" to it. If you like it, you can always come back for a full-blown vacay.

I have never been on a cruise, and have had little desire to ever go on one until now. When I think cruise I think old people in formal wear, shrimp cocktail, shuffle board and a tiny ass room with a twin sized bed and an even smaller bathroom. I'm sure that I am way off, and am willing to be proven wrong.

The only way I would go on a cruise would be if you guys were there; like Jill said, it would be fun and convenient for everyone to be somewhat together. There were so many people I didn't get a chance to talk to at this last meetup--maybe people would hang out more if there were all you can eat shrimp cocktail and shuffle board thrown into the deal lol.

I'd hang out with you guys anywhere, if I had the chance!

But I'd RATHER be sunning on a chaise lounge with my Mai Tai, next to Dana, Sonya, Kerry (et al), watching MJ break dance with the calypso band on deck, with Jon in the background hitting bio-degradable golf-balls off the back of the boat, waiting for Andres to bring me my next adult beverage... while we anticipate an evening of Kenric entertaining us at the Karaoke bar... then watching Bill crush the mere "tourists" in the casino's poker room.

Just sounds a little more conducive to creative brainstorming with other like-minded people than sitting around Denny's over a Grand Slam breakfast.

But that's just me! Attendance optional!

I have been on one cruise and loved it. It was from Nice, France down the coast of Italy. Too much food though. I probably gained 10 pounds in a week. The tough part was limiting the breakfast to one desert.

The port calls were great. There were multiple choices for tours or you could do whatever you choose for the entire day. We did things like mountain hikes, taxi rides to different locations in the towns, or tours to the hot spots. Many options.

I am not suggesting that this is a tour to take but, the different port stops we made were phenominal.

I love my leather jacket that I bought in Florence!

So it seems we don't have consensus yet on whether or not we want to do this.

The original intent is to have another get-together without just repeating the B&P meetup settings.

I guess I miss you guys too much and simply want to spend more time with like-minded, "infected" individuals. Once a year is not enough.

There are many other alternatives, like spending a long weekend at a Napa Valley B&B, or enjoying some 20 acres of Montana, or visiting Niagara falls in summer.

It seems we are five people FOR and the rest AGAINST a cruise. And... those that agree on the cruise idea have different destinations ideas and dates.

    Any other idea then?

P.S. Jill, what next? Margarita? Cosmo? Blowjob? 7&7?

I've never been on a cruise either, but interested!

There seems to be no shortage of everyone wanting to meet up more than once per year.

    That is your common denominator...

    Decide by May 1st.

I'm down for whatever, as long as it's not like a "let's go next week thing."
