Default Changing The Game Before Failure

The company I work for had a partnership with a marketing firm that did some seriously shady shit (impersonating various attorneys, charging clients double, charging for services they don't offer, etc...), well they're under investigation from the feds and now we're in trouble, too. We have all our ducks in a row and have fully opened our doors to the feds to help with the investigation in any way possible.

However, the feds informed us today while going over stuff for their investigation that we can't continue with our business until we get additional licensing. It'll take up to two months to get what we need and as a new small business, we don't have what it takes to make it two months without adding any new customers. This isn't my business, but I do like the people I work with, I enjoy what I do for this company and genuinely want this place to suceed. Right now I feel like all I can do is to keep going in and doing my job to the best of my ability and try to keep spirits high, but is there anything else I can do?

Does anyone know of any routes to follow to keep the doors open two months down the road? It's a frustrating position to be in. At the very least has anyone been in a similar position in the past? How did it turn out?

Have you asked those who are investigating the company this question? ...I would maybe also ask what kind of fees/penalties you'd be looking at if you were to add new customers.

If your owners don't already have a bankruptcy expert, they need to get one-- now.

(and I realize that you may not be the appropriate person to suggest this)

A business expert can give them perspective, and show them their options. And they can often negotiate through times like this-- buying a needed 6-8 weeks to get licensing or pay for things.

But if the owners of your business needed to get certain licensing from the beginning, but didn't-- that's a different story. They may be given a very short amount of time to comply-- or they may be told that they cannot do any more business until they've obtained the necessary licensing that they should have had from the beginning.

Again-- a business/bankruptcy expert who has a track record for saving businesses would be the way to go, IMO.

I feel like I can suggest this, and I think I will. Thanks!
