Hey,

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that has pulled from every source available to me: books, audio books, seminars, experience etc, and of course....movies. I'm watching "There Will Be Blood" at the moment and I freakin love this movie! Talk about a driven dude!! Daniel Plainview (lead role) is a total beast! I must have seen this one 20 times and I still love it.

Wall Street, Glengary Glenross, Eyes Wide Shut, The Super, Trading Places.....hell, even Meet Joe Black! The list goes on and on. If it depicts business or wealth, or even just a motivational character like any Bruce Lee film, Rocky, or Steve Prefontaine etc I'll give it a shot!

Anybody? What flicks give you a little boost and keep the motivational fires lit? I totally use movies as a tool to keep me going when I need a little push.

The proprietary dilemma; I only want to bring to market what is proprietary

My perception is that proprietary market offerings are the only ones worth pursuing, even though they are arguably exponentially harder to prove concept. Conventional business offerings probably offer favorable profit rewards. Some of these: mechanic shop, boat dealer, specialized merchandise, etc are categorized as "conventional." I cannot grow passionate about these types of business because, largely they do not offer a meaningfully proprietary element to their business. Are there others like me, whom are infectiously enthused by notions of proprietary offerings, and find that the alternative, although profitable- is quite boring?

Please share your thoughts, because I acknowledge that this type of thinking is probably conceived as not ideal. I want to open and train my mind to perceive the alternative business ventures (not heavily proprietary) as equally attractive to pursue. I guess my priorities just need shifting, maybe I am seeking recognition for disrupting an industry, rather than just filling my pockets full of cash. :)

Best,

Hello everyone,

I'm 42 Yeas old. I have been a slow lane person for over 20 years now. More then once I have looked for ways to get out of this time eating corporate world. But just never could get past square one. I read this book and man I wish I had this information years ago. It is eye opening.

So here is my current situation. Has I said I have been working in the corporate world for over 20 years now working in the IT field. I am married to a wonderful woman with four awesome step kids. Everything was good to start with but then my wife started to have medical problems including bad back pain. With the cost of medicine, medical care, tests, unexpected house and car repairs, legal costs, and just me under estimating how much it takes to support a family of six after being a bachelor for a very long time, we started to take on a huge amount of credit card debit. Then my wife lost her job. She has started her own business but it is slow moving so far. It's taking every thing I can muster to just pay on our debit and monthly bills. Even after cutting back on everything there is no money to pay more then the minimum on the credit cards unless I want to default on something and take a credit hit (which I am doing everything to keep my credit rating good and high). I am looking at options now like selling my car and living with just one, etc.. I know this is my fault for not getting control of it earlier. But I have to move forward now learning from my mistakes. There have been a lot of hard lessons.

The slow lane just does not work. You can work all your life and save money back and do the right thing according to all the so called experts but then boom! Life hits you between the eyes and wipes out everything. I do still have my 401k but that won't help me for another 30+ years. Also I need spend more time with my step kids and my wife. The only real answer is to change lanes to the fast lane and focus on helping others so that I can build a new future for my family.

I look forward to learning from all of you here and to contribute as much as I can. Now begins a new journey.

Hey everyone,

I'am 23 years old and graduating in Aug with bachelor's in Accounting.
The more closer I am to finishing college, It feels as if I have new mentality the way I view things.
Ultimately I want financial freedom and the college degree won't help me achieve that.
I am been reading this forum for a while now and everyone is doing something fastlane. I am also trying to figure out
what I can do to start my own business, or what kind of venture I can pursue that will
keep me away from 9-5 job.
I know I have to work very hard in anything I do to reach my goals, I like the energy and motivation on this forum.
I live in NY upstate, I want to connect with people that have similar mindsets
maybe someone who can mentor and give me guidance as well. Cheers!

I'm a wanna be fastlaner currently stuck in a well-paying slowlane career in the financial services industry.

My idea is a "Virtual Headhunter"...where anyone with lots of connections in a specific industry(or anyone determined to build a network) can develop relationships with those industry specific headhunters.

The goal here being to "feed" qualified candidates ongoing to the "real" headhunters...the ones who work with employers and have actual job openings to fill. These folks make an average of 25%-30% of the starting salary/bonus(based on industry this varies), and their average search is typically for a 6 figure position. And- no matter how networked they are...there are ALWAYS going to be high-qualified candidates they know nothing about. I know this from personal experience.

So for example- a headhunter who places a 100K candidate might make $25,000-$30,000.

Now- if that candidate that was placed was a referral from you(as the virtual headhunter), you would be in line to make 25% of the headhunter's fee or $10,000...whichever was greater. In my example- using a fee of $25,000...you would make $10,000...which is greater than 25% of $25,000($6,250).

I came up with these figures based on my real-life attempt at this business a while back. I had 3 headhunters signed up using an agreement I am happy to share with anyone who might want to see it. It was designed to protect you to make sure the headhunter wouldn't be able to "cheat" you out of your fee(which would be very short-sighted from a reputation standpoint but you never know). And- it was refined based on their input.

I built my list of interested candidates ongoing with a simple contact form on my website I would send to them via LinkedIn. They would share what positions they were interested in, their qualifications, there willingness to relocate or not, and upload their resume.

Once a week I would compile this growing list and share with my headhunters(no candidate names at this point). When a headhunter was interested in one of my candidates, I would forward an agreement or email with the candidates name(with their permission of course), and get sign-off from the headhunter agreeing that I am in line to get paid if that candidate is placed. Again- I have an agreement covering this aspect if anyone would like to see it.

I ended this business like everything else I have tried...out of fear of my company discovering my side business and firing me.

I think this can be a very successful business model for the right person who wants to take advantage of their networking skills to make what could be very good money ongoing. It's all about relationships, timing, and providing solutions(highly-qualified candidates) to meet needs(open positions).

My thought is to present this as a "business in a box", and partner up with interested Virtual Headhunters where I can work on the back end to support them, tweak the model ongoing, etc.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

Thanks!

Can a Marketing Agency be a Fastlane business?

Hoping this is posted in the right section...

I have years of experience in sales and sales management and previously worked in sales for a few seo companies.

I am evaluating starting my own SEO agency as a fastlane business.

I know how to get the leads, I know how to sell the product and can build a sales team around the product having done so previously (for an employer). I can also build the team to manage the deliverables.

I am attracted to the business because of its recurring income model but I am hesitating on heading down this path because I am not 100% confident that this business can get me in the fastlane.

I am hoping this forum can help me work out my NECST analysis and guide me towards a solution.

Need: Yes; Every business with a website needs traffic. Every website owner wants traffic from google and is willing to pay.

Entry: Not Sure; Although it is a competitive space I know how to get in the door with potential clients and close them. Direct Sales is my path to entry.

Control: Yes; I am building this from scratch and maintain total control over pricing, product, etc.

Scale: Not Sure; The potential market is huge. The plan is to grow via a sales team following a proven process for lead gen, qualifying, presenting, closing. While the business can grow exponentially, it is not likely to attain 1000 customers overnight.

Time: No; This is a Human Resource System and requires management, training, hiring, customer service, outsourcing, contracting, etc. This business typically can only be operated during regular business hours so there is no 24/7 income.

What are your thoughts on how an SEO agency stacks up against the NECST test?

Any FastLaners have any experience in building a marketing agency or making a service business fastlane?

Thank you for your feedback.

Hello All,

I'm currently finishing the Millionaire Fastlane Book and I am totally floored! It's instantly in my top 5 of all time and I'm only about 85% done. I've been realizing lately that I need faster ideas to achieve my goals and that's what led me to the book on Amazon, and that's how I found the forum.

Long story short: I'm 36, I got started on the entreprenurial path in my early 20's in the form of rental real estate. This was during the early 2000's. I "bought" (read: borrowed every cent) a package deal of houses in a rough area and swiftly began recieving my beating from the school of hard knocks! That 1st attemp at owning a business ended in "failure" but exposed me to what I would need to know if I wanted to be a real estate investor. It exposed my weaknesses. I eventually realized that that experience showed me exactly what I lacked, so it really was a gift in disguise. If I turned those weaknesses into strengths then I stack the odds in my favor for success next time. Also, I've also owned other small ventures along the way and have learned from each one.

Since that time I've devoted myself to becoming a better business-person / investor / landlord, and today my wife and I own a smaller number of rentals but they all run smoothly. We are totally committed to retiring as quickly as we possibly can and that's one of the reasons I'm looking to speed up my ideas.

That's pretty much it for my intro!! Thanks!

Hello Side/Slow and Fastlaners,
today I want to tell you something about me.

I am Kevin, 20 years old and live currently in Germany. (In the area of Stuttgart.)
At the moment I did my A'levels and now I am in the "orientation" phase of my life.
Well I have three options now:

1.Get a apprenticeship / Job,I would try to get an apprenticeship in areas in which I want to end self-employed (Computer Business / Software Developement)
2.Go study (I would study computer science or marketing)
3.Start fastlane fulltime (find a need, solve the need, market the solution
/ app developement / affiliate marketing...)
4.Make a passive income to stay on my own feet and then concentrate 100% on fastlane.

I think in the end all choices can support my fastlane but I dont know how to go on further.
To be honest I would like to go on with the third choice but I currently live still in my parents home and if they see me jobless I can talk what I want about financial freedom and fastlane... They are still in the old system. So if I would take choice 3 I have to move out and get a part time job at the end which is also time consuming and could even make the distance bigger between my goal.

I know my story is not like crazy or stunning like other guys here. And I must say that I really respect the persons who have a much harder life than me and not making questions about the things I mentioned and still going fastlane.

So yea, how did I end here?
Since I am 15 I was interested in money making via the Internet. I did try out much things but most of them did really waste my time and I dont know why I even joined them. Maybe you heard about "paidmails, surveys for some cents..." I was like making 5$ for clicking like 1000 ads. I must admit, I was close minded at that time. Well then I started playing WoW and thought that I could make money by playing it and selling Accounts and Gold but it takes too long and the prices from the china farmers are to low. It didnt really make sense. Then I got scammed by the roulette system, I think you all know it. You bet 1$ on black and if it dont hits you bet 2$ on the same color and so on. And In the end if it hits on the second time you still made 1$+. Sadly roulette dont memorize the past and the probability that the color black or white hits stays below 50%.... so from roulette I came to Poker. With playing poker you can definetly making money because you are playing against players. Players make mistakes and you can profit from them. I was playing Poker for 2 years and in the end I can crush the micros.
But if you think about it, you can only make money by the weaker players that means you need fish to get money. But if you watch the trends in google you can clearly see that poker is dying. I dont want to be dependent on fish, I dont want to trade my time on the tables for money. Its like having a job but you can control the hourly hence it is conditioned by your skill. Also I was suffering while playing, when I dont win (variance or bad play) my day was ruined. So I thought about other ways of making money. I read the double dads book and was fascinated about the idea of passive income. But he dont really said "How" you can achieve it, in fact he just says that you have to employ people and dont be the employee s.th. like that. Now I was on the right track searching for other methods to make money. I found out about Affiliate Marketing and later then I finally bought your book. I have to say it was really eye opening. The way I think is completly changed and alone for that I can't speak enough thanks.

Well my problem is that there are different ways that I can follow but I am not confident enough to choose one.

Ah one problem that I currently have is that I want to write good english articles but my english sucks. I dont know who to ask and where to ask for help to get better in english writing. English is like the skill that I want to master the most.

Thats it for now, have a nice day.

Hello
I found this forum by googling about the supplement business. I'm located in CA, in the enterprises software industry by trade. I'm looking to do somethings on the side and have been dabbling for a while in things (SEO, IM primarily).
Currently I have a few Kindle books, and mainly have dropped all previous business attempts as they were distracting, not generating any real value.
That's it for now!

First I would like to apologize for my english. I'm more confortable with french.

I'm 32 years old and I'm living in France. I'm on the 265th page of the fastlane book and it is realy inspiring so I can't thank MJ enough for writing this book.

I've left my job (with a small money compensation) in January and since then I've declined all job offers to focus on educating myself (by reading books) and working on my fastlane business.

Today I can say that this is the best choice I've made in many years. I've learned more on my own in few months than in 6 years of employment. I'm definitely not the same person I was in January and I look to my world with new educated eyes.

Being in the tech field I'm working on a new kind of social network. Think of it as an advanced version of reddit.I'm getting a small success with a few thousand registered users and some members publishing daily. Now I've to figure out how to go to the next step, get enough audience to monetize and make a living from it.

I hope I can find some answers here and I'm ready to share what I've learned through my journey.
