    Default Volusion Help-Affiliate Products

    Hello all,

Does anyone know how I could sell affiliate products through my Volusion store? I have a few affiliate products I'd like to add and am wondering if anyone has experience on doing so.

    Thanks

    Cory

I do believe Vollusion offers various ways to handle affliates. However, i could not possibly give you more info then the company itself. Why dont you ask on the website of them? They have a free livechat with people that are willing to answer qeustions.

    Good luck!

Typically hosted services are closed source, so unless it had something in the admin panel to redirect a customer through an affiliate link when they click the buy button, it's likely you can't do it that way. I have 0 experience with volusion though so i can't confirm. From what i have seen though, typically you have to use a modified self-hosted shopping cart that you can tune to do just that.

    Lighthouse,

Thanks for the input. What I ended up doing is deleting the buy button for that specific product and using the amazon link that had the image and amazon button built in. So when they click it it opens in a new window to the amazon page.

Just to clarify further what I did for anyone looking for a solution. When you go to add a product in Volusion (I'm sure it's this way with many carts) They have an option for you to paste custom code, for that product only, in order to modify the look of the buy button. SO, what I did was erased the code and instead wrote "Featured on Amazon". This erased the button that said buy now and instead showed my text.

Then, I had Amazon generate my link WITHOUT the picture and posted that link in the product description. I then searched for the product image in a .gif format on Google and uploaded it as the product image. So now I have the product image, text that says it's "Featured on Amazon", and the link for it right beside it.

    Hope this helps some,

    Cory

Are you sure you want to handle it that way? Once your customer clicks onto Amazon you've lost them. You may get the affiliate sale, but I'd think you'd be better off keeping him on your site.

Try embedding an Amazon aStore in your site instead. You get the Amazon cart, checkout, etc without leaving your site.

For instance, I've got a site that has no real direction at the moment and is serving as more of a sandbox than anything. Check out DonkaTa: Tool Store to see what I mean about embedding an Amazon aStore.

FULL DISCLOSURE - THIS LINK IS AN AMAZON AFFILIATE LINK. I'M ONLY SUPPLYING THIS TO ILLUSTRATE A POINT, NOT TO GENERATE SALES.

It would matter anyway, anything they buy on amazon in 24hours you get the commission. Even if you embed a store on your site, its not like you will get the customer data or anything anyway. So it really doesnt matter that it is done this way. It sounds like its just an affiliate site for affiliate income anyway.

Now what issue you may run into is having static links all over the site, this will become a management nightmare. Things go in and out of stock on amazon as well as sometimes change ASIN's. When i was doing heavy traffic to amazon, I had a system that would query their API and find the best match that was in stock to push the traffic to. It also generated a short link that was no follow so i wouldnt have a site that had my affiliate ID and link over it for google to crawl. I have seen that be a negative impact on search rankings recently.

People still leave your site to check out though. It's not really much different. You still don't keep the customer's information.

You're right, they do need to click away to make the purchase. It would be better to have your own shopping cart.
