Currently eyeing up a bentley GTC for the next vehicle. Too bad there's 10" of snow on the ground!
Go for the Bentley! In my experience with them, the maintenance isn't too bad per year. I received an estimate of $1500-2000 annually for the first three years but in reality, it cost me under $1000 per year to maintain them. They are especially good in the snow because of how heavy the vehicle is, giving it more traction.

    My fast cars?

2007 solstice gxp with some mods.
1973 914-6 balls out modified and scares the shit out of me.

I don't drive them much. Only when I really want to drive like a maniac.

This was a car I rented and loved when I make it this is what will be my toy. It was a 2008 C6 Corvette convertable so fun to drive.

I'm with you Hakrjak. As a kid I dreamed of cars. Bought every car magazine I could put my hands on. I spent more time reading R&T than my textbooks.

I did have a 500+hp Cobra a couple of years ago, but never drove it. Now I just want to eliminate cars altogether. No interest whatsoever.

I don't even want to own one at all now. Right now I need one, but barely. Next year, it won't be necessary at all. If it's not necessary, its a distraction and I would prefer to focus on 'doing' not 'having'.

Now start a thread on motorcycles, and we will have a different conversation. Those are a necessity. Like water.

Really owning all my dream cars is my main reason for doing any of this stuff. Big house, nice clothes are nice but I would be happy with a warehouse full of cars and a trailer home.

I know a lot of people like flashy cars to show off ,but for me it just matters what I like and don't care what other people think. I love the way a car looks and feels when you drive it even if you drive it slow it is enjoyable to me.

When I was 22 (36 now), stuff was my motivation as well. Cars, bikes, houses, etc.

Now my motivation is experiences. For me it is easier to live the life I want without the stuff. It is much easier to travel light when you don't have the excesses to burden you down.

But if cars are what motivates you, use it. Post pics of your dream cars everywhere to keep you moving towards your goals. This is a great tool to use for keeping oneself on track.

People will enjoy spending money on an experience way more than a materialistic item. This result has been proven by multiple studies all with the same result.

Not quite my dream bike, but it'll do for now:

Lol, I used to think Gixxers were for posers until I actually rode one(NOTE- that is my friend's bike, I wish it was mine!), then again, I'm still at the skill level of a 600cc and not quite ready for a nice Aprilla or Ducati 948 until I get some track experience...

As for exotics, I've heard a few horror stories from owners on here that have me more into renting and racing them than ever owning one, as you said "doing" is better than "having"(someone's living the 4HWW Lifestyle Design )

Especially since you can drive 9 exotics for 45 total laps at Las Vegas Motor Speedway - here and the cost- $2400... a lot less than a month of ownership fees for just one of those cars

    Lovin' that 749

From someone who's owned both rice rockets and pasta burners, what's your personal preference? And why?

Also to affirm my "squid" status I have never gotten the front wheel up or dragged my knee, although there is a sharp turn around here that I get close to dragging, but without my old riding pants all I have are snowboarding pants that don't have hard knee plates so it would be really stupid to drag it on that turn

I'm tempted to do a power wheelie on the Gixxer 1k since 185hp makes it really easy to get up, but as I said, I'm not quite ready for a 1k, but when a your friend lets you borrow his bike and you currently don't have one it's hard to say no.

I haven't tried the newer ducs, but I loved the 749 the best and the Hayabusa a close 2nd..

two reasons why I like the 749 over the rest:

1)The sound of the 749 with the BOS exhaust (took 3 months for it to come from italy but worth the wait)
    2) The height is a bit lower and seat is wider, it was just perfect for me (I like to hang off the seat a bit), I felt like I could take the corners twice as fast as on any other super-sport I've been on, because of the overall feel of the bike which suited my riding style.

I am quite seriously considering this car:

    Mercedes-Benz : CL-Class - eBay (item 230558432403 end time Dec-23-10 11:14:43 PST)

2001 Mercedes-Benz CL600. V12 Coupé, around 371hp stock as I understand it but can be chipped to 500+ with minimal effort.

This would be my first car. Any thoughts? Is the $15K price tag deceptive; eg. will I drop $10K+ more into it over the next year in repairs?

From someone whose first 3 cars were: 93 Firebird Formula T-tops, 95 Firebird Formula Conv't and 91 VR4 I'd say HELL NO!

You've got a good entrepreneurial head on your shoulders and getting a toy like that will drain both your bank account and time, much like it did for me and now I have to start over at square 1 at age 26 when if I didn't get those cars and these forums existed when I was 18, I'd probably be retired by now

As for the $15k tag being deceptive that is a HELL YES- tires alone on that car are about $1k and any engine issues you're looking at $5k, unless you know how to do it yourself, then it's $2-3k + your valuable time.

Don't wanna be a buzzkill, just don't wanna see someone else make the mistakes that I did, not to mention, if you keep doing what you're doing you'll have a nice new Lambo before you turn 25, just like Sprite, who once said he didn't buy his Lambo until he knew he could buy it and still be a millionaire...

search benz forums and look up the reliability of that model. Mechanically etcc they are great. The dirty little secret is all those nice electric gadgets on benz's go wrong. I have an SL 500 and its been in the shop 8 times (5 in a row this past 3 months) for electrical problems. The worst kind, intermittent electrical shorts. So it won't start on you or the guages go blank and your headlights go out while you are driving, then when you bring it in they can't find anything. then you let them drive the car for a week or so until it happens to them. Then they hand you a bill saying they found the problem. You drive it home and bang, it happens again. Rinse repeat. A quick search on Benz owner forums for your particular model will tell you a lot of what to look for.

I will second that. I did all the stupid things you could imagine. Get 50k and blow it partying and buying expensive cars.

I bought 2 expensive car in 2007 and had $3000 car payments. Thats money I could have used to invest.

Nothing I want more right now then to buy a GT40 replica. 140k on a car at this point would be really foolish. Sure I could afford it but it would ruin my chance of ever having a future.

Instead I am investing every penny I make in new investments. In 3-5 years I can buy that GT40 and be wealthy as well.

Good rule of thumb is only spend 10% of what you earn and invest the rest.
