Default Anyone Here Ever Taken a Spin Class?

This is very off topic, but has anyone here taken or take spin classes at a gym?

If so, do you have any input as far as getting a better seat? I know there are gel seats out there, but I haven't found one I like that really works. I am close to designing my own and wondering if this is a problem for everyone who spin (or distance) bikes or just me lol.

I've done it a few times, never took my own seat though. I found that my ass got used to the hard, narrow ones they have. After about 10 minutes into it you forget about the seat comfort. I would look into shoes first if you haven't gotten those yet. They definitely help you maintain control and focus in the hard and fast sequences.

Danielle does century rides on road bikes. I, being adverse to all forms of cardio, have gone with her team and sat in the mexican restaurants enjoying margarita while they work.

I constantly hear them say the same thing over and over... "time on the saddle". Basically meaning you need to do it for a long time to get a butt-tolerance to it. Anything you put inbetween (like a gel seat or springy banana seat) will slow the process down. Suggest just spending extra time in the saddle to get comfortable.

Or take up boxing. I know a good gym in NV.

I've been taking a spin class twice a week now for about a month. I love them, but can't go more often due to the friggin' pain! Even twice a week is pushin' it. Will you ask Danielle what she does? Did she just get used to the pain? ...And why is the solution to get used to the pain? ...And how on earth is boxing not considered cardio?! Good lord, when I was taking boxing classes it was crazy cardio--I could barely make it thru a class. Of course you are in much better shape, which may have something to do with it lol.

Comfort in the saddle is key. Any good bike shop has a Ass-O-Meter. It’s a moldable strip that has a measurement that it takes. You sit on the thing and it reveals where your butt bone is located and the distance between the butt bones. This measurement will properly size your seat to your bones and it makes an extreme difference when sized properly. Girls usually have a wider butt bone than men like a 143 or so.

Yeah, it's really all about just getting a little bit of time on it then it starts to feel better. I'm not much of a biker but during the summer I go on 50+ mile rides for fun and the first week or two getting back into it isn't the most comfortable time. haha

So, get a comfortable seat for you, but not matter what you'll still need to spend some time on it before even that stops being irritating after.
