In a different thread, you said:

ultimate irony is that the world economy has more to lose when US is recessionary than the US itself... with this in mind, it is only so long before the world economy is going to be dependent upon the USA.... the 64k questions is: when will china be self sufficient and not need the american consumer to support its own economy? and it will come, tomorrow, next year, in 10 years, whatever, when that day comes the US will not be able to artificially fund the economy as it has in the past 2 decades ... this makes for another discussion, but it's integral to understanding where our economy stands

China is going through Iron Age, Industrial Age, and Information Age all at once in various parts of it's geography! The civilization that pops out at the end will be like nothing the world has ever seen!

    ATW,

By this I believe Randall was talking about how dependent China is on exporting goods to the US. Here is a link to trade statistics for US and China. In 2007 the US imported $321 billion worth of goods from China while exporting $ 65 billion to China. China's total exports were $1216 billion for all of 2007. So the US accounted for 26% of all exports which is a huge number. So an economic slowdown in the US will effect China to a large degree. We will import less Chinese goods and Chinese businesses will be effected as a result, due to revenue shortfalls.
