I saw it at the theater also. Really inspiring movie. Is it out on DVD?
I saw In the Pursuit of Happyness over the weekend....Great movie, nothing fastlane, but very inspirational in terms of determination and personal struggle. Reminded me of many of the success stories here.![]()

Yup. You can even buy a pre-viewed copy at Blockbuster for $10 or less.Originally Posted by Runum

Cool. Great ideas Russ. +++speed.
I saw it about 2 years ago in the theater. I was just agreeing with OP that it was a good movie.

Agreed! And very different from Wall Street or The Boiler Room.
Yes it's out on DVD. It is older, guess I should have mentioned that. It was new to me! lol
I actually didn't like this movie -- not because it wasn't inspirational, but it was too depressing. When Chris has a breakthru - I was waiting to see a pay-off and didn't get one. I would have been nice to watch the main character experience the fruits of his success once he "made it". Instead, the story ends.
As a dad and "doer", I found the movie mindbogglingly motivating.
(is that a word . . . "mindbogglingly"?)
How to take care of your son after mom has left, sell the remaining inventory of semi-worthless medical machines you bought, and *still* be the only one chosen out of the broker's program. Truly inspirational.
I think the movie documents the hardest time he had-- it was relatively easy after that (he had a draw, and was able to make money as a broker).
Also, he wrote the book only *after* he had become a success.
Something not everyone knows: In the very last scene of the movie, as Will Smith and his real life son are walking down the street in SF, they pass a man wearing a well tailored suit.
This is the real Chris Gardner.
Will Smith gives him a long look, he says, as a sign of respect for the man, and what he accomplished.

Extremely inspirational. When he hit rock bottom and was sleeping in the restroom I actually cried.
I make a point of watching that movie at least once a month when I'm feeling gloomy. I then realize that my situation is nothing compared with what Mr. Gardner had to face.
