What's hot right now? You know like when youtube just came out, people could easily get views. When kindle amazon came out, selling ebooks was easy. So what's new and filled with opportunity now in 2014?

sorry, my answer was a result of frustration from a prior thread.

helping people achieve their goals easier and faster is always hot. Can you help people do that in some way?

for more specific ways, see TMF where MJ talks about the superhighway (or whatever it's called) of the internet and the 7 forms of business there. the internet is hot right now.

Here's a good place to start...

Via: http://recode.net/2014/05/28/heres-the-full-deck-of-mary-meekers-latest-internet-trends-report/

Mary Meeker, the former Morgan Stanley analyst and current Kleiner Perkins investor, has built a personal franchise around her annual Internet trends report.

Meeker and her team have a knack for pulling together data that speaks to both the specificity of what’s happening right now and how it fits into the larger context of the past and present.

On the docket for 2014:

  • Updates on Internet and mobile usage, combined with Meeker’s optimism about online advertising opportunities.
  • Some public-valuation commentary — Meeker thinks things in tech are not as bubblicious now as they’ve been in the past.
  • Observations about the opportunities to analyze data brought in by sensors.
  • Numbers about the shift to TV watching that’s more social, personalized and on-demand.
  • China trends.

"You know like when youtube just came out, people could easily get views. When kindle amazon came out, selling ebooks was easy"

You want easy, really. Good luck with that if your goals are set anyway above mediocre. Easy leads to a lifetime of working on things you don't care to do.

The list Choate put above is not opportunities, but industry segments/technologies...

Consider the idea that opportunities don't exist until entrepreneurs create them (not easy). That can be in something trending or unfashionable.
The corollary is that there's no substitute for good market knowledge (however obtained).

So perhaps look to your experience so you can build on your strengths, then explore trends and apply grey matter to whatever piques your interest. After all, even Adsense and YT are hardly 'over' in terms of making money.

Work hard, Good luck

Drones - once the regulatory environment improves tons of drone-related businesses will pop up, but most are sitting on the fence because it's illegal to make money off of flying drones right now. Get established now - easier to stand out.

Drone training programs, repair shops, photo/video services for stuff shot from drones, review site, etc.

Why not take something that is kinda hot and add your own bells & whistles and make it Super Hot and bank it. Many have done this, in the past and will keep doing it in the future. Not many, need to re-invent the wheel and start from scratch. it is great to be an original, but it is not needed these days, to become filthy rich :)

For photo/video services do you have to live somewhere exotic? If you have to travel far to record a certain place then I don't see how one can make a profit.

If you're looking for problems to solve you should probably ask people what problems they have.

No, real estate agents, vacation rental companies, farmers, pipeline operators, rescue services, and many other industries/people currently illegally operate commercial drones because demand is so high for the imagery.
