Hey,

I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that has pulled from every source available to me: books, audio books, seminars, experience etc, and of course....movies. I'm watching "There Will Be Blood" at the moment and I freakin love this movie! Talk about a driven dude!! Daniel Plainview (lead role) is a total beast! I must have seen this one 20 times and I still love it.

Wall Street, Glengary Glenross, Eyes Wide Shut, The Super, Trading Places.....hell, even Meet Joe Black! The list goes on and on. If it depicts business or wealth, or even just a motivational character like any Bruce Lee film, Rocky, or Steve Prefontaine etc I'll give it a shot!

Anybody? What flicks give you a little boost and keep the motivational fires lit? I totally use movies as a tool to keep me going when I need a little push.

I don't watch many movies, however, the Netflix series "House of Cards" comes to mind.

I hear ya, I don't have too much time these days for TV either. However when there is time I like to watch stuff that still contributes to my goals and mindset. I'll look up House of Cards for a later date thanks!

Well, it was definitely worth $10 for entertainment to me. I loved the book, but it isn't really easy to compare them. The book is a literary masterpiece, the movie is good, but it isn't going to change anyone's life. ;)

Is it worth it? I didn't like much the book.

I love watching movies.

The Great Gatsby has nothing to do with "motivational". Is a good movie but far from business related, besides of him creating his wealth to be with the girl on the right moment.

Let's go... my list is:

1. Moneyball
2. The Social Network
3. Slumdog Millionaire
4. The pursuit of the Happyness
5. Pirates os Silicon Valley
6. Jerry Maguire
7. Tucker. The man and his dream
8. The Secret of My Success
9. Wall Street
10. The Godfather

Enjoy!

American Gangster

yeah I know - it's about crime, drugs, killing people.
but from business perspective what he did was great:

1) get into the business you know and understand
2) get an unfair advantage (cheaper and better stuff)
3) change the status quo
4) take care of distribiution and dramatic presentation
5) invest in your business and outside of your business

At some point you got to let go of those motivational movies. Or atleast, stop watching them as part of your 'strategy'.
You are just giving yourself a little high, just until you are sober again. At some point, you need more and more highs.
In that way, motivational stuff is like a drugs.

Self-improvement books, motivational movies. I believe they have a time and place, but I believe the 2 hours you spend with those books/movies is better spend doing some work.
Real life, in the moment experiences beat those books (and movies) 10x.
Writing out your thoughts about start ups might do you more good.

You can spend hours and hours on youtube watching motivational videos or you can get out and gain experience.

It's a very thin line which I still find hard to balance, but so far reading less and watching less of those videos has brought me more results than when I was completely into it.

If you want the high, just type in 'Tony Robbins' on youtube. Hours and hours of motivation. While he is getting richer and richer, you get entertained. Great deal, right?

1. Gone with the Wind.... rich girl goes to rags goes to riches again. cheat, lie, steal, or kill.

Great motivational movie...

2. Scarface.... lots of good quotes.

I am not too sure these are the most moral characters in cinema history, but they got what they wanted.

Fav business movie : Goodfellas , from Martin Scorcese. My favorite movie of all time. It may be a gangster movie, but it shows good business and mindset advice.
Like this quote from henry hill: "for us to live any other way was nuts. Uh, to us those goody good people who worked shitty jobs for bum paychecks and took the subway to work everyday, and worried about their bills, were dead. I mean they were suckers. They had no balls. If we wanted something we just took it."...

Henry explains how their lifestyle is different from normal people.

Jim Rohn said something about superior achievement being a function of time, education, personal philosophy, attitude, and activity. One sees all of these things in this video. Mega work ethic.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi- A thoughtful and elegant meditation on work, family and the art of perfection

"He is the proprietor of Sukiyabashi Jiro, a 10-seat, sushi-only restaurant inauspiciously located in a Tokyo subway station. Despite its humble appearances, it is the first restaurant of its kind to be awarded a prestigious three-star Michelin Guide rating, and sushi lovers from around the globe make repeated pilgrimage, calling months in advance and shelling out top dollar for a coveted seat at Jiro's sushi bar."

I stopped watching movies for motivation and switched to books. I limit myself to one movie every weekend. As stereotypical as this sounds, The Wolf of Wall Street does it for me. Money Chant, hell yeah.

Scarface:

Was the one movie that changed my life when I randomly put it in the VCR when I was 9 Years old. Even though it's about drugs there are so many great lessons you can learn from that movie. I also liked American Gangster.

I recently also came across The History Channels "The Men Who Built America" which I loved. It's basically about the first Titans of america and there monopolies "Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Ford" Also mentions other Titans that we rarely hear about.

^ You can watch "The Men Who Built America" on youtube if anyone is interested.

I hear you man I love the depth you get from a great book, but every now and then if you're resting up and/or recovering from busting your a$$ building up your wealth/business and you find yourself turning on the TV....why not get inspired and motivated. I use the TV as a tool to learn, not just to veg out. I don't watch series or shows (except business related), mostly documentaries and movies related to what I do in life. And yes Wolf of Wall Street was awesome!

That's what I'm sayin' - if you spend a couple hours watching something like that you're definitely not wasting time. That's a mini education right there! I have seen most of that series and it is excellent. I'm not really saying that we should all make it a point to schedule in couch time, and I don't encourage laziness, but if you find yourself turning on the TV I think you could only benefit from watching stuff like that.

I do love documentaries. I will watch some shows late at night once I've gone past my time block for reading or doing work. After a certain time and too many hours of building stuff just doesn't stick anymore. I mostly do comedies to lighten up before going back in for the kill.

That's interesting but that's not really where I'm coming from. Let me clarify a little:

Let's say I just spent the last few weeks from dawn till dusk busting my butt on my thriving business. I'm completely wiped out from doing what needs to be done in the world to move my goals forward.

It's now a Saturday night and the wife and I decide to spend some Q-time together and do dinner and a movie (relationships are wealth - correct?). If that movie happens to be something business related or inspirational, you're gonna say it's somehow a bad thing? I'm self motivated and I certainly don't need a movie or a book to get me going.

I'm no couch potato that I can assure you. I don't schedule time in to watch TV, I am an action taker, but if it happens that I'm going to be at the movies with my wife then I'll be pushing for the "Wolf of Wall Street" type of movie everytime. If it's date night at home, then I'm pushing for a Steve Jobs documentary, or Elon Musk etc.

The bottom line is that every single person that's a member of this forum finds themselves watching a movie or TV at some point in their life. If it's something that inspires or encourages that person, I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm not talking about finding the motivation to get off your a$$ from a movie, although I guess that's possible. I'm already off my a$$ and have been aggressively working for many years. If I decide to sit back down on it and relax a little, I'd like to also do that in a way that is productive!
