Do you think eating out everyday would be more expensive than going to the grocery every week? Let's say you go out for dinner everyday for 30 days at cheap restaurants. The bill cost on average $10. $10 x 30 =$300. or $15 x 30=450. Lol maybe that is sidewalking but mom's groceries costs at least $400 each month. Imo, that's a pretty good way to free yourself from doing the dishes and cooking. If someone here would be willing to do the experience, it would be cool. Not me because I need my money for other purposes.

We spend a lot on groceries because we choose to eat organic and we like to eat well.

$800 a month for two people is our grocery store average, which is about $13/day per person. We also eat out (about twice a week for me and about 5 times a week for my husband). I could eat out for $13 a day. However, I could not eat organic berries in the middle of winter for breakfast and sashimi grade Ahi Tuna steaks for dinner for $13 a day per person in a restaurant. I can do that at home.

We have the good fortune of being able to eat out whenever we choose, but there are health considerations. Restaurants are generally more concerned with making a tasty meal than a healthy meal. If I eat out too many times a week, I can feel it in my overall health.

Depends on where you are eating out at really. If it is fast food, don't sacrifice your health. That will eventually catch up to you. Anything else I think to be much more expensive.

Personally, I get by on around $120 per month on groceries. My main course is chicken, with more chicken. It's lean, cheap, and tastes a helluva lot better than chicken flavored ramen noodles.

I budget 150 bucks/every 2 weeks (paid semi monthly), and usually I come close to it, but usually never over unless friends come to town. Groceries amount to about 50-60 apiece between my gf and I, and we used to alternate meals on going out. We do Chinese a couple of times in there, and I hit up Wendy's for lunch a couple of times each week....might even have a 20-35 dollar meal in there. There's no way I could even go out to eat remotely close for the same amount, unless I eat shit food. Any restaurant where you have to tip would eat into that, fast food is terrible, and other places it's like 8-9 bucks for a "good" sandwich or somewhat healthy meal (I consider quiznos/subway/Panera some type of healthy). You can go buy a freezer bag of chicken breasts for 8 bucks and could that for a week or two when single.

Listen, it all depends. It all depends. It varies from person to person, situation to situation. There are people out there who have a lot more, and those who have a lot less than you. There are guys with huge dicks who will be left with a million dollars from their parents, there are girls who will work from 15 on full time, there are people everywhere each one with a story, with their unique way of looking at life.

Don't try to find "the standard" It doesn't really exist, except in statistics. Meet people, hear stories, earn wisdom. And focus on how YOU are measuring up against what you would like to achieve.

"Dad, I am sorry I am such a failure!"
"Son, you are not a failure... failure is earned, you do not have the right to call yourself that"
"What am I supposed to do? I don't even know where to aim"
"Anywhere, everywhere! Hell, sometimes it's great to just hear the gun go off!"

Around here, buying groceries and preparing a meal (except for maybe pasta with store brand tomato sauce) averages out to about the same as getting something to go. I get stuff to go or eat out all the time, and it's never Wendy's or McDonalds. These days there are so many healthy-ish option for around $8-$10 per person that I prefer it over cooking most days. This might be a local problem, though. Fresh food is very expensive here at the supermarket.

    The story is not complete.

How likely is it that the person will stick to that budget?
Eating out all those times might increase your chances of food poisoning, so instead of dishes and cleaning you may pay a doctor's bill instead.

This could work well if you don't mind eating the same foods everyday. Actually, I think that would make any plan easier to execute.

    You're travelling?

You are ONLY going be eating out 1 meal per day? Is that enough for you?

"Imo, that's a pretty good way to free yourself from doing the dishes and cooking"

Buy plastic dishes made out of plastic?

And I don't think 10 dollar meals are that big, I've been eating many times in Croatia and there's the food also cheap about 10 dollars or more. And it doesn't make me that fuel....

I will skip all the "healthy" talk on this one since everyone and their momma basically said that already.... Butttttttttttttttt .....
What about breakfast, lunch, snack etc???

Aside from the fact that this logic lacks merit based on the fact that you will be inclined to spend more eating out throughout the day as I am sure you do not eat only once per day (Dinner).

So that $10/$15 per day easily turns into $30+ per day. Also, assuming that these are official restaurants that just so happens to be budget friendly, you are also going to have to be "tip friendly" ....So add that to the bill. :smx8:

IMO, stick to Mom's grocery list. At $400/month, Im sure you're eating good ... Afterall, Mom cant be that bad of a cook :tiphat:

I will make a suggestion rather than pointing out why eating out is "bad" for you. My suggestion: give the Slow-Carb diet by Tim Ferriss a try. In a nutshell, youre enjoying good proteins, vegetables and legumes. It is a lifestyle diet and will help you lose weight (I lift weights and cycle through bulking and cutting phases. This is a diet I use throughout the spring and summer to help drop a few pounds but still retain muscle mass). The good part about the diet - it is a cheap way of life. No bread or simple carbs means quality foods which can be bought relatively cheap. No processed foods, no microwaveable foods. Think about it, you can buy a few pounds of chicken for $10 but a frozen pizza weighs in at $9-15. Oh and you will feel better on it anyways.

just another potential plan of attack.

Hmm, the slow-carb diet. Good idea as I have some weight to lost. How do I find it? Do I have to read the 4 hour body?

There is in my opinion absolutely no reason to eat out other than for social excursions / treating yourself once in a while.

    FAST FOOD IS UTTER SHIT

The convenience of not doing dishes? That's BS - everything can be fastlane, healthy meals included.
I eat 1.5g x my body weight in protein everyday. That's 260g of protein. EVERY DAY. Human beings have been conned by the food monopolies that carbs are king. Cognitive function, body composition (fat / muscle ratios) and general health will all be improved by making the switch from shit (think fats and carbs/ aka fastfood) and an emphasis on protein.

Do yourself a favor, by a skillet.
Stock up on beef, chicken and fish when it goes on sale and freeze it for weekly meals.
You can cook 4 days worth of food in 2 hours. Time is our greatest asset remember?
I promise you, 110% you are shortening it by eating from establishments of any kind.

This will vary in different parts of the world. I spent 8 weeks in Prague and was able to get along extremely healthily (lost ~35 pounds over those 8 weeks) for really cheap. Granted I was taking USD and converting it into Crowns, but I could get a 32 count egg carton, 1kg of sausage, a 250 of milk, and a handful of small baguettes for about $25 USD. That would last me 1 week. I was eating on my own and not buying for a family, so the purchasing politics were different... but it's way cheaper in some places to grocery shop.

Cleaning and dishes absolutely kill me. I hate doing them... but I find it hard to eat out and feel good for anything less than 30 dollars a day. That is 3 10 dollar meals which isn't even that good.

I usually make my own breakfast, make some sandwiches for lunch and eat out for dinner.

Well, I have come to the conclusion that the idea of eating out everyday is dumb. Lol. Dishes and cooking are a part of life unfortunately, but cooking isn't always bad, I like it sometimes.

I never go out and eat, unless it's with family, and I hardly eat unless I'm with family. If I were to buy food for myself or eat out, it would be pure eggs (half with yolk/half without).

Food will destroy my income (legitly). Food will lower my chances for dates/attraction. Food will cause me to die young. Food is an expense I could do without.

I don't need none of that, if I could help it.

If you want budget and ease, you can actually both plan your meals and eat out a couple of times a week.

If you're concerned about budget, plan home prepared meals that are easy to prepare.

We are all on the go sometimes and eating out is the best option, so eat out but choose food wisely (food and place).

It's really a matter of lifestyle.

Start buying your food in bulk. Maybe join Costco or Sams Club. You get more food than your local retailer like Vons or Safeway and the prices are better as well.

When you stock up on foods, overtime you'll barely be spending money on food unless you treat yourself or need a quick lunch while you're out and about :)

It's a goal of mine to eat out more.
Changing my environment up really helps unlock my motivation.

Making a sandwich myself and then eating it doesn't even register as a footnote in my day. It happens, and I usually eat it while continuing to work.

However eating lunch at a local diner, seeing people living their lives, relaxing, and clearing my head while somebody else makes me food really invigorates me. I have sparks of genius and I run off back home to EXCITEDLY do work, and it always ends up being a lot more productive than if I had been working while I ate.

So just because someone else made it means that it's unhealthy? Bahahaha

It's like when people say how bad pizza is, but if you separate the ingredients, they'll rave about how healthy they're eating.

Also juicing increases the rate of absorption which has benefits to a point. If you juiced all of your meals, you would be hospitalized.
