Hey Guys,

Currently looking at putting together a Real Time Financial Information Service. Historically the specific service has mainly been desktop based and very much stuck in the 90's. However, obviously web technology is pretty prevalent these days.

So my question is...desktop based application or web based application for a SAAS ?

I'm largely leaning towards web based largely for the Control aspect...but would love to hear any opinions.

Cheers

hmm sounds like you need to do more research.

Will web based vs desktop based affect lag-time at all? Presuming that is important in the financial industry, particularly financial information.

Sounds like a good idea but it looks like you still have a lot of work to do, here's hoping someone experienced in this matter on here will chip in.

You can have a desktop app that is a SaaS product (example is Close.io). You can have a web app that is a one-off purchase (examples include Jungle Scout and PRPowershot). The model doesn't dictate the platform.

However, there are benefits and drawbacks to both approaches, and it depends on exactly what your app is intended to do, and how it intends to fulfill it's functions.

It sounds like you don't understand the basic technological challenges of starting a technology/software company. Why are you starting a software company/product?
