Hey,

I read about half the book 2-3 years ago, I remember thinking how I could have written it myself. I'm a self made "millionaire" as they say, I own or partner in a few businesses. I now travel the world and have fun learning different skills and doing crazy stuff, like flying a Mig 29 to the edge of space in Russia (two months ago) and mountain climbing (3 months ago) etc.

I started way back, in 2002. I'm now in the process of helping out one of my girlfriends (lol, I have a few) I want her to start her own online business.

So I'm trying to make a list of actionable knowledge that she needs to have before she starts looking for a "big idea" and going for it. So I'm making this list of actionable knowledge she needs to have and then I'll find the best resource for each.

I don't keep up with whats going on these days so I might be missing a lot of stuff... when I started out it was real simple.

Please add to this list if you see anything that I'm missing:

The first on my list is GOOGLE ADWORDS - learning inside out how to get the best ROI for ads that can generate you a positive ad spent to earning ratio. To me this is the #1 knowledge you need to get down.

Then copyrighting / how to write a squeezed page / sales pitch etc.

Email marketing - email responders / sequence

Mastering wordpress / templates or another platform to create and run a website (Wix?) (unless it's a complex eCommerce site that needs specially written site)

CRO - A/B testing

Web design / UI (not actual coding but knowing good from bad etc)

Tax laws / corporate laws where you operate

How to use social media for marketing

Not just Google Adwords, but mastering all paid traffic sources.
Search (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc), Social (Facebook, Pinterest, etc), Mobile, PPV, Contextual, Display/Media-buying, etc

Alot of new sources have popped up since 2002.

You'd want her to learn about all the different funnels, what works on each traffic,
how to monetize on the backend,
how to create responsive emails lists,
how to utilize Retargeting,
how to track and analyze each part of her business.

Mind you it's a process and each one of these things can take a while, so better get started sooner than later

...so now let's talk about that MIG 29 mission, how what that? :D
What are the requirements and how do go abouts doing that?

Thanks for the list. Maybe if you can, add the best resource of how to learn this skill, the best book or workshop or conference etc.

Mig 29 - Google it, you just pay. It was 17K Euro but might be less now because of oil prices and Rubel being down. This is me in the picture :)

Oh and some tips - better do it in the summer, when there are no clouds. The aerobatics part is better than the altitude part ("edge of space.... not really but very cool, 18km altitude, you CAN see the curvature but it's slight ) Email all the agents of the Sokol airbase and compare prices / negotiate.
You need to sign up 60 days in advance for security reasons

No. They just want your cash, they don't care if you die :) they only took blood test. They told me that more than 50% throw up (I didn't) BUT <<< I passed out in the last aerobatic move, it was after 40 minutes of flight and we did some kind of a loop at 6Gs and I just passed out.... I have a video of that moment. BUT LETS KEEP THIS THREAD ABOUT THE ACTIONABLE KNOWLEDGE! Thanks!

Where can one learn about paid traffic I have tried a few slowly and carefully. Feel like all on YouTube and blogs are just saying same stuff and only touching the surface

A lot of people get their start by going through the Traffic Blackbook course. That's how I got my start, but to be honest it's not in depth enough. The real knowledge came when a guy that I knew showed me the ropes of how he plays the game. That was the missing key for me. It's tough to find knowledge that actually works TODAY though. It's not in your competition's best interest to reveal what's working for them right now because it drives up their own costs.

IMO, the best way to learn is to just dive in and roll the dice. You learn a lot more in real time as opposed to reading a book. It's a crazy mind game.

Paid traffic ftw.

Agree with icecreamkid... you/she needs to just get started learning a traffic source and then do just in time learning.

Adding to the list: Microsoft Excel.

Am I missing something here? The list is great but you can only do so much learning and doing in a day. Also a lot of these skills on your list have a great deal of depth or breadth and are not a weekend study. How much of this list would be better outsourced to specialists? A working knowledge is both useful and advisable but you can't expect to master all of them. In fact if she already has a full time occupation it would seem she would have little time to cover more than just the basics.

You're not missing anything. Yes, it's vast. Not for weekend and she'd not do it all by herself. She'd start with two weeks of 18 hours a day reading and learning, then would have the knowledge to HIRE the right people and know who she needs to hire, and what she can do on her own.

Spend half a day reading and watching everything linked to in my signature. In the "brain dump" one are a few videos showing Excel probably being used differently from she will have seen.

Good luck!

How about instead of doing all that action faking she comes up with a good product idea and just starts to sell it? Crazy thought, I know.

That's odd.

Anyway, I've three links in my signature at the moment:
  1. AdWords Posts
  2. FREE Guide to Getting Started With AdWords (you have to be a Speedway member - certain number of posts I think)
  3. Brain Dump (you have to be an INSIDERS)

EDIT: I agree with @theag too. Launch and learn?

I'm not an INSIDERS, if you'd like to copy paste it here that would be nice. Thanks

The first link should get you up to speed with what to do, and why.

The second link is detailed instructions how to get started, so that you don't lose your shirt. I put it into the Speedway because I wanted it to be free to other fastlane forum members, but not indexed by Google.

The third link (the brain dump) isn't totally necessary, but does contain a few links to videos that show how to do stuff quicker (once you've learned how to do it manually of course). I put that into the INSIDERS because I definitely didn't want it indexed by Google. If you get to the stage of wanting to watch the videos, then PM me and I'll point you to them outside of the forum.

Yes, something like that. You need to provide value to the community. Like everything in life providing value opens doors. Maybe share some insights into how you got started on your entrepreneurial journey. How you made your businesses successful. Anything that can help or encourage others here and as a result you will increase your Speed Points. Start a new thread and share your unique knowledge.

Also if you are in a position to spend €17,000 to take to the skies in a Mig (awesome pic by the way) then an INSIDERS pass should be a no brainer I would have thought. Andy's information is worth that much alone.

Well as I said I've started so early and I'm pretty much retired by now, I don't know how I could contribute with current information. When I started I did SEO before I knew it was even called like that. I was the first in a few industries to have a 1800 number. I remember thinking "I hope this is worth it" (like $15 haha....) made my first site with pure HTML and CGI that I somehow hacked (I'm not a coder) by hand, hundreds of product pages.

What I can contribute today is about lifestyle, traveling, partying, enjoying life while still growing intellectually. I'm huge into self development. I'm now in Buenos Aires for two months studying Spanish and Tango. I'm in the process of becoming a life coach, I read 4 books a week. I do paragliding, I'm a skipper, mountain climbing, and I'm single so I really do party really hard and am hardcore into pick up which I'm not sure most of you will want to hear about. Oh and I've been to the North Pole this April if anybody wants any info about that.

Seriously, that's awesome man!

This might be some time away for me, but when you travel do you usually go solo? If so, do you already know people near your destination or do you start fresh knowing nobody?

Where would you say are / were the best places you've been to so far? What's next?

Edit: Just realized the Qs might make the thread go on a tangent.
