Or so a Greek physician once said.

Do you pay a massive amount of intention to your diet?

What your tips and hints to eating yourself healthy?

My tips:

Chew
Sit down
Chill
Be with friends or family
Put the utensils down between bites
Cook your own

Medicine: (where food has acted as medicine for me)

Chugging honey kills my hayfever
Lots of oranges = get over my cold quick
Acidophilus pills (before meals) = reduces gas and stomach aches

I think the most important thing about food is to take it the right way.
Our society teaches us a fundamentally flawed relationship with food. Food as a clutch, as something to do, as a way to calm every aching of the soul.

Eat to live, don't live to eat, people.

the one thing people should immidiately start putting in their diets is sheep or goat products (milk , butter, cheese).no cow products (bigger amounts of artificial hormones inside cow products)

real butter (the hard one) is what everybody should consume. taking margarines with artificial substances (to soften it and to make it last longer) inside instead of butter is not the proper way to eat.
real animal butter has nothing to do with heart attacks as suggested in the past. the plaque in the veins that causes arteries to block is made after lots of sugar damage the veins and they rebuild themself that way.

sugar is the no.1 thing to avoid.

salt also should be avoided as possible.

(the human organism is like every other mammal, do other mammals eat salt every day? do they go near sweet things every day?- maybe they still have the instinct to survive better than us humans...)

p.s. i will not mention alcohol, tobaco , artificial drugs, pills of every kind ,you know they are bad for you..
p.s.n2 i will mention that everything that comes from a factory and has nutrition label on it, is by far worse than everything that comes from the earth.
p.s.n3 please dont start saying that they use chemicals a lot for fresh fruits and vegetables and meat in general... go and buy organic things. also go and buy the less visually apealing vegetable, the smaller one, not the one that seems that comes from a big mold.

follow the above and you will feel that you have 3 times the energy you have now......

goat dairy has natural hormones too that can mess things up based on your tolerance, but you're right about it more tolerable than cow dairy. Organic grass fed cow dairy also has plenty of natural hormones.

Cheese is very concentrated milk, and can make any dairy intolerance show up the most.

I drink a glass of grass fed Kefir every weekend though cause the large variety of fermented probiotics which can colonize the digestive system in a good way.

My position on milk, for what is worth, is to avoid it like the plague.

I don't know much about goat milk, but my policy is, when in doubt, close your mouth.

I only consume cheese occasionally, because you know, it's what the Gods eat.

Yep! To visualize it better: you guys know the brown burned coating a steak gets when you use those sugary BBQ stuff? That's exactly what happens inside your arteries.

While this forum is not aimed specifically at physical health you cannot deny the link between what you put into your body is directly correlated to what you get out of it. Everything already mentioned here is not without merit, but the key factor towards finding your ideal diet is not to take others recommendations but rather experiment yourself to find out what diet best suits you.

-Paleo
-Ketogenic
-Cyclical Ketogenic
-Intermittent Fasting
-Etc

It's easy to get lost in a subject that on the surface should be very straight forward. I will indulge in a little hypocrisy and give one recommendation. If you wish to simplify your diet and set parameters and rules about what you should and shouldn't eat I would suggest living by only one. And it's this:

  • Don't eat anything your Grandmother wouldn't recognise as food - Michael Pollan

I can only attest to what I have done and what has worked for myself. I have been following the IF protocol for ~5 years (I can't remember the last time I ate before noon). The main benefit I have found from it is convenience. Cutting out breakfast and shortening your window of time where you eat simplifies your diet and therefore day to day tasks so much.

There has been a lot of studies done that show it's benefits

I love a good breakfast but i try to wake up around 9am, and finish eating around 7-8pm, so sort of a 12 hour fast.

I love a good breakfast but i try to wake up around 9am, and finish eating around 7-8pm, so sort of a 12 hour fast.

There is certainly nothing wrong with a good hearty breakfast and if you find your body to be running optimally then as my Canadian brethren say 'Give er'.

I thought it an act of sacrilege to not eat upon waking for most of my life and would be chronically late as a consequence. But I held firm in my belief that not eating in the morning would cause my metabolism to slow down, my body to enter a state catabolism eventually ending in spontaneous combustion.

That was until I started reading about intermittent fasting which for all intents and purposes is just a marketer's attempt to put a modern spin on something that people have been doing forever (largely due to lack of options of course).

It's certainly not for everyone, no dieting protocol is.

But I would invite anyone who enjoys tinkering and experimenting with their body in the pursuit of attaining optimum performance to try some form of conscious fasting. Nothing too extreme of course, perhaps just make a decision to forgo your first meal until noon for one week.

Think of it as a mental exercise, a form of discipline you may be surprised by the outcome.

You now have an extra 30 minutes at a crucial point in the day to with as you please, you could:
-Stay in bed in dreamland (that would be the blue pill)
or
-Use those extra minutes to attack the day

I'm not imposing any hard and fast rules here or shunning anybody else's eating habits just offering some suggestions from personal experience.

I have recently been trying to get in shape and my research led me to nutritionfacts.org and I have actually been shocked at what Dr. Gregor has been saying. The nature of what he says is taboo just like MJ's book but Dr. Gregor seems completely legit. His story and facts seem to check out and he donates all of the money he recieves to charity. I bought his almost 600 page book last night and after 50 pages I cannot believe what I am reading.

You go on the internet and beliefe a random guy what he says about nutrition?
Go find another source and verify what he says, there are lots of charlatans outside, referencing made up studies, repeating rebuted "facts", and over generalizing results.

It is your body, and you only have one.

See what works best for you and check back with your doctor often if your values are ok.

I agree that you should look at multiple sources to verify information and make educated decisions for yourself but saying "you go on the internet and believe a random guy" doesn't make sense. With that logic why should I believe what you just said? Or anyone on this forum for that matter? Then you say go check with your doctor when the guy I'm reading information from is a doctor.

I did not give you any concrete advice except for "go figure if this is OK". So the logic is not broken.
