    Competing with established companies

    MINDSET
I agree that I shouldn't compete in this market because I don't believe that I'll be the next IBM, Dell, or HP. I've seen these companies steal from each other for the last 25 years, and there's no way I'd want in the middle of it. Like I said, if something is so new and so disruptive you might...

    Competing with established companies

    MINDSET
This is the main reason I've been looking outside the field I've been in for years. I just don't believe I can compete even IF I do come up with a great idea. There are many large IT companies with millions, if not billions, of dollars to spend on R&D, marketing, and sales. Every day there is...

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
Well I thought since I had some time, I would update this thread. I have not been able to come up with a design that I feel I could get a patent on (because of prior art), and I have seen many work-around's for the existing problem since I first started this project. I think I'm going to put...

    A Plutocrat's Perspective

Damn ... I searched before I started this thread to make sure it hadn't been posted already ... fail!

    A Plutocrat's Perspective

    EXECUTION
Some interesting views from billionaire Nick Hanauer on capitalism and economic inequality. http://www.ted.com/talks/nick_hanauer_beware_fellow_plutocrats_the_pitchforks_are_coming/transcript?language=en Maybe this will evoke discussion, maybe not ... Either way, I found it very informative...

This has been discussed over and over. Use the search and I'm sure you'll find all the answers you need.

The Limiting Beliefs Can Be Overcome

    MINDSET
I think there are some truths here, but after watching some of his other videos I found it hard to take this guy seriously. When he started to read other peoples thoughts, I hit the bullshit (exit) button.

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
Quick update: The need for this has been validated and I'll be going forward with the design process. After doing more research on the design and use of the product, and seeing the product in use, I've realized that the redesign is going to be a bit more involved. I would like to design...

So true, but it stings a bit.

    2000+ LinkedIn Contacts

    HOT!
Just out of curiosity, what happens when everyone and their brother start adding these 2000 contacts? Why would any of these people accept random connections? I used Linkedin for a long time and all the connections I had, I knew personally, and had worked with them at one time or another. When...

Thank you for this! Much appreciated.

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
Definitely aware of the FDA process, which is the main reason why I want to make damn sure there is an actual need. I figured this would be a large barrier to entry. The good part is that the device itself isn't that complex and neither is the modification, so I don't think the clinical data...

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
I've discussed the potential need with more medical personnel that are directly involved, and I'm getting a variety of answers as to the frequency, and urgency, of the problem. At this stage I'm not sure the problem is as wide spread as was initially communicated. I'm finding it hard to put...

Should a Start Up in the early stage be concerned about this?

Maybe I'm the contrarian here, but I think there is a tendency here to needlessly denigrate people for planning some things out. How do we know the OP doesn't have sales yet? The OP said they weren't ready for an LLC or corp yet, and is apparently not taking a bunch of unnecessary steps...

    The Amish among us...

I'd be interested to see how well this would work. I can tell you from living in a heavily Amish area, they don't have many issues moving their furniture items. There are huge stores here that sell Amish furniture and they do very well. People that know the quality love the furniture and will...

Devised a new design yesterday that can be retrofit, instead of modifying the existing product. Searching through patents again this morning. Back on track for now.

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
Okay, today I finally found an application for a US patent that contains an embodiment that "sort of" uses my idea. The description and drawing are general, but describes it enough detail to shoot my idea in the a$$ (I think). This patent was submitted in 2010, published in 2012, but has not...

Apple made a boo-boo celebs leaked pics.

    OFF-TOPIC
What if this was another type of sensitive data? I'm opposed to any personal data being uploaded to any cloud environment, but most people trust that their data will be safe no matter what the contents. Unfortunately people don't take the extra steps necessary to help protect themselves either.

While I agree with this, the fact that the iCloud accounts even allowed for a "brute force" attack to happen is a problem. This is an attack that is easily thwarted, and the accounts should of been locked out after so many attempts.

    Redesigning an existing medical product

    EXECUTION
Downloaded FreeCAD and drafted the first part of my design, it went faster than I thought it would. After looking at the existing product again I'll have to make some more minor changes. Looking at patent information for some of the existing variations, and most of them are from the 80's and...
