I like how you can spend real money to get virtual money.

Microtransactions are where the money is. I think Temple Run said that they made more money when they made the game free + in-app purchases than when it was paid + in-app purchases.

Well, really all money is virtual. The only "real" thing is the time that you spend or the process that you leverage to get it.

I know a lot of people who detest the idea of spending "real" money on "fake" stuff... but somehow they're happy to spend hours of their life on the same fake stuff. That's way more confusing to me.

She started rich and beautiful, but it's certainly her business acumen that's kept her in the lime light. For those with short memories, this was the very unglamorous flavor of her debut:
o-SIMPLE-LIFE-KIM-HO-570.jpg

Every one of Paris and Nicole's interactions with her can basically be summarized with "go home and get your shine box."

Her birth traits and family of origin was very fortunate (lucky), but she hasn't squandered it, she's AMPLIFIED it. That's something impressive.

It's kind of crazy to see how she went from being a footnote in a reality show to dethroning one of the two that started the whole "socialite reality series" thing.

(this is by far the most I've ever commented on Kim or Paris. I'm not sure if that's good or bad....)

Part of me is impressed. Those kind of numbers are crazy.

However, I think any credit to her should go to her capitalizing on everything. People may think she is a great business woman, and maybe she is, but she became famous for nothing. Then used that as a springboard to other things. Things that actually are something, like clothing lines and such.

But, without the sex tape and who her dad was, would she be able to start a clothing line and make it successful? Maybe, maybe not. I don't know her, so I'm only speculating.

Any early money she made could have just gone to marketing and business teams to help her with her businesses. She may have little input.

I liken it to being handed a list of names and contact info of hundreds of thousands of people who happen to have an interest in you. Pretty easy to make money from that.

Bottom line, as someone else said, it comes down to fame. When you're famous you can pretty much write your own paycheck.

Side Note - Kind of like those teen mom shows. They are basically being paid for "messing up" and having a baby when they are still a teenager. Then cameras just follow them around. Far as I'm concerned, they aren't adding any value. Although the argument could be made that they are adding value...since some people enjoy the TV show.

Same thing with those Jersey Shore people. Some of them are rich now, for being idiots on a TV show.

All of this is a nice reminder that there is no valid excuse for being broke in America.

I'm conflicted. Part of me is sad for the society that wants to escape reality that much and uses money they don't have to do it...on the other side what can I change? I want to say something but likely nothing, so I guess I'll keep profiting from it.

It's a multi-trillion dollar industry... music, television, video games, drugs, books -- when life sucks, escapes are sought. The most common escape is material goods and experiences... a Fastlaner's dream.

This Kim K app is brilliant!

From the article: "The mobile game market is expanding rapidly. The trick is to get more people comfortable with spending money on purchases within games that they downloaded for free. Right now, less than 3% of gamers do so."

I am familiar with Second Life ( http://secondlife.com/ ), and in its early days one could spend virtual money and acquire virtual wealth, and with enough of that virtual wealth, you could cash in with real dollars. SL also had a virtual stock market and casinos, which eventually became outlawed and couldn't be created or used any more. There are now fortunes of real dollars being made in SL by designers/sellers of skins, bodies, clothing, dwellings, and environments of the 3D avatars in Second Life.

But this KK app is some kind of in-road for giving people permission to spend gobs of real cash on virtual crap. And this education - of the Sidewalkers - to use their money on their apps this way is surely going to create some good opportunities for a savvy and clever Fastlaner.

Key take away: Serve Sidewalkers to Live Fastlane.

Word.

I re-wrote a reply 3 times, covering everything from value of human contact, to poor people in Russia to how consumerism will inevitably doom society. I don't think I know what point I can argue - you're right, things are like this. I guess the world is changing whether you like it or not.

There's absolutely no value there. Just taken advantage of people, teens and so on. Who look up to you, just because of fame.

She's providing a game for people to play, that's value. And people obviously find it more valuable because it's branded for her.

You might not think it's value, but thousands of other people think otherwise - or they wouldn't buy it.

Yeah. I know that. But some of them can't think for them self (Like most 14-15 year olds.) and live in a fame bubble.

Where you are mightier than god, if you are famous. Know what I mean?

Of course. Some are in between. And some actually take it with a grain of salt. And still buys the game. Just my opinion.

rather have a few million and be able to walk down the street in peace, than have infinite wealth and be stuck at home for life

She was well off before, So i would not consider her self made.

She used low blows to get the boosts she needed

She is a very good business woman, no doubt, she has a good team.

"taking advantage"
unless you're in for charity, when you sell something you're "taking advantage" of people

there are lots of people who are more famous than Kim K and not cashing in on it. there are lots of people smarter than Kim K and not cashing in on it. there are lots of people with more resources, potential and ability than Kim K and not cashing in on it.

She is making money providing value. Not all value has to be constructive and beneficial.

She's providing a game for people to play, that's value.

There are people who make millions helping people improve their health (beneficial to society) and people who make millions by getting people to destroy their health illegally, druglords (not beneficial to society).

I don't think Kim K is being helpful, constructive or really much else that is positive in my view. But, she doesn't care what I (or most people) think. She is making 700K a day from her app.

The conclusion of the matter is we are here discussing this from a business point of view, not a celeb gossip point of view.

She has executed well. Let us imitate her example. wow, i never thought I would say that about her.

Yeah ofc she wouldnt be here if her dad wasnt rich
But how many rich kids achieve nothing? She actually does very well.

Like saying Trump just got lucky that his dad taught him RE development and left him with something, but how many people would be able to make that into 5 billion? Very very very few.

Almost all successful people are lucky to have a good brain and were born in the West, but for me its about what you do with the cards you are dealt with.

Hmmm! She is the PRODUCER and the people that use the app are the CONSUMERS. So she has to make the money, of course! But I know most fastlaners wont find time to use that app when there are multitude of NEEDS to be met and DOLLARS to be made. ;)
