Bookmarked! Only read 2.

Although the seemingly endless search for the right path for me ended in chapter 32 of TMF .

So less research, more action now. I guess that's why they make audiobooks.
so true man, that's my plan right now get down to some serious work my friend. i feel when you read alot of books and not doing enough work and you say you are busy i find alot of procastination in that, because you find more pleasure reading and gobbling down information than going outthere in the world and getting some hands on experience and work done.

You're right. I am an information/learning junkie and I'm just now starting to balance that with more implementation/ACTION/execution. All the info and knowledge in the world doesn't mean much if you're not doing anything with it. Learning is my favorite hobby, but I've got work like a boss to change myself and my life.

EDIT: Also, this thread is awesome, I've read approximately 50% of the books mentioned, so I'm happy to have a few good recommendations to add to my reading list.

Cashvertising is the #1 copywriting book written in history. I've read a dozen of the other big names. None of them match up.

As for "print ads" being outdated, that's simply not true. Direct mail is still more cost effective than digital marketing, and the author lays out perfectly several strategies for getting leads and sales. Book's the best there is all around.
Seriously? Over "The Boron Letters" Gary Halbert?

All of my fellow $1k+/hr copywriting buddies recommend TBL over Cashvertising. The fact that it's not in this OPs top 5 is a little shocking. ;)

I'm reading Cash in a Flash - Hansen, Allen right now. I've heard people speak very highly of it but never on this forum...any thoughts?

Also, added a TON of these to my ever growing list. Thanks everyone!

Good to Great?

Good to Great is a very catchy title. Didn't think the book had much substance though, and the concepts don't apply to companies just starting out IMO

Good to great does not apply to start ups. I was bored reading good to great.

Was filled with a lot of statistics and stories that are not adren to my real status.

6. Ca$hvertising, by Drew Eric Whitman

  • Brief Summary: An easily accessible, practical, and ready-to-implement guide to writing great copy that SELLS. It also gives you insight into the mind of how advertisers think and guide customers towards buying your products.
  • My capsule review:
    • This is a book that I have read several times, and refer to constantly. It's chock-full of great tips and examples, and very easy to read. But don't take my word for it: many of the successful copywriters on this forum swear by the book. I don't believe that it's a substitute for reading other great sources on copywriting, such as the Gary Halbert Letters, etc. But it's a great start.
    • My only nitpick is that I wish that it were better organized for referencing later. That being said, my copy is heavily highlighted, tabbed and tagged.
  • Target Audience: Everyone. Never hurts to know how to write or spot good to great copy; conversely, you need to know what terrible copy looks like.
  • Format: Paperback, e-book
  • Utility: Extremely useful. Should be on most people's shelves.
  • Re-read?: Over and over and over.....

That is a really good list. Here are two books I have read/am reading, which I find really useful

The Pumpkin Plan by Mike Michalowicz
This is excellent at explaining how to set up a successful business. It uses the metaphor of growing a pumpkin. When you grow a pumpkin, you plant several seeds. Very quickly it becomes clear which seed is going to be a prize winner and which are diseased. The good farmer will put all their attention onto the prized pumpkin and destroy the rest. The diseased seeds must be removed, otherwise they will kill the good seed.

The same applies to business. Many entrepreneurs are desperate to obtain and retain as many clients as possible. As a result, their 'diseased clients' tend to dominate their time and stop them from growing their business.

By killing of bad clients and focusing on the best clients, you can amp up the quality of service you provide to them. By doing this, you'll carve a highly specialised niche. Your business will no longer be competing with everybody as it will be providing a clearly defined service that others cannot offer. This will allow you to charge a premium and let your business grow rapidly.

Most entrepreneurs try to do everything, so they don't really have a business, but have just created a job for themselves. A true business has systems in place that allow it to make money even when the owner is on holiday.

I strongly recommend this book. It does get overly repetitive at times, but the message is so simple that it is easy to ignore, so the repetition helps it to stick.

Mindset by Carol Dweck
Just started this now and already it's wisdom is making me buzz! Carol identifies two types of mindset, "Fixed" and "Growth" and then examines how they can impact on every area of life. At the moment, it's only defining the two types, but I'm hoping it will explain how to move from "fixed" to "growth". Even if it doesn't, it's a really eye opener.
