I tell them I am working hard. But they think I'm playing around on the computer....

Watch out with this sentence, because i had a time where i really thought i was doing great things and taking action but looking back i really didn't.

Take this. Feed your family. It's a short term solution. Keep your family happy and alive. Family is what we are all here for anyway, money or not - they make life worth living. Take the job to take care of them, not you.
And a job isn't forever. Changes happen every day.
Otherwise look-up on google "how to make 3000/mo".

My slow lane relatives think I'm insane.

I've stopped talking about "fastlane", "entrepreneurship" and stuff with other people altogether.

If it's someone I don't know that well, I tell them "I work with [whatever comes to mind]".. and i usually say something boring.. Like "accounting".. Because if you tell them "oh I run an online business making lots of money" then their mind will start boiling. They want what you have so bad but don't have the ability (yet) to wrap their mind around it. Instead they justify their own slowlane by telling you things like "get a job", "quit playing with your computer"

there is a great system for finding out if you really are. Divide your time during the day into three different categories: Personal, Maintenance and Growth.

PMG

Your day may look like this (example): Assume you take the ebook route and you start writing
  • 8.00 - Emails
  • 9.00 - finishing on a project
  • 10.00 - writing on an ebook
  • 11.00 - sending an invoice
  • 12.00 - Lunch
  • 13.00 - YouTubing
  • 14.00 - Emails/websurfing
  • 15.00 - Reading up on things
  • 16.00 - Having a skype meeting
  • 17.00 - Email some more

Now assign PMG to your day:
  • 8.00 - Emails (M)
  • 9.00 - customizing a website and managing your email list (M)
  • 10.00 - writing on an ebook(G)
  • 11.00 - sending an invoice(M)
  • 12.00 - Lunch (P)
  • 13.00 - YouTubing(P)
  • 14.00 - Emails/websurfing(P)
  • 15.00 - Reading up on things(P)
  • 16.00 - Having a skype meeting(M)
  • 17.00 - Email some more(M)
  • 40% is personal
  • 50% is maintenance
  • 10% is growth
How a productive day would look like:
  • 8.00 - Emails (M)
  • 8.30 - finishing on a project (G)
  • 10.00 - writing on an ebook(G)
  • 11.00 - writing on an ebook(G)
  • 12.00 - Lunch (P)
  • 12.30 - Assigning outsourcing tasks(G)
  • 14.00 - writing on an ebook(G)
  • 15.00 - writing on an ebook(G)
  • 16.30 - Reading up on things(M)
  • 17.00 - Write some more/prepare for next day(G/M)
  • 5% is personal
  • 10% is maintenance
  • 85% is growth

I think most people does not even have 10 % growth.. Oh, and if you're unsure whether it's growth or maintenance.. it's probably (M)

What would you do if you had to make say 3,000 a month to support your family?

(Haven't read all posts)

Lately I have been hearing a lot of people talking about they are making this and more a month net driving for Uber.
But that ties up all your time obviously. But it might be better than working a 9 to 5 until you figure something else out.

This is really great. I read a book recently called "Simple Rules" about how we live in a complex world and you've got to make super simple rules to guide yourself through all the options out there.

So one rule I came up with for myself, is that whatever I chose to work on "it's got to be profitable now."

This has helped to guide me and after reading your post, this has been my other guideline:

"Is this a growth activity?" If not I don't do it or re-shift focus. Thanks for the guidance!
