It doesn't really matter. They are all the same.

Go with GoDaddy, especially if it's your first.

Now when it comes to hosting, however...

Honestly, I've only used two companies: 1. GoDaddy and 2. Namecheap.

I'm pretty loyal to Namecheap because their customer service has always been amazing to me. However, GoDaddy hasn't ever been a problem for me in regards to domains--hosting is another issue. If you wanted, you could get a domain from GoDaddy for like $1 with their coupons, then transfer it later on if you don't care for their service.

Godaddy for registration, Bluehost for hosting.

GoDaddy will be the cheapest. Theres always a coupon. If you want Whois protection then price might even out some since NameCheap includes that free for the first year.

I think I prefer NameCheap mostly anymore. If im scooping up something I may or may not use then I go with GoDaddy on the cheap. Prefer NameCheaps site. Don't get the junk pushed on you. And I prefer their dashboard.

Hosting id say HostGator. Great customer service.

Bluehost has KICK a$$ customer service (who I use). Wanted to throw in my 2 cents about 1and1, the customer service ABSOLUTELY BLOWS. Never use them, please, let my many many hours and days on the phone with them help someone out... Bluehost has a live chat 24/7 with SMART representatives that can actually fix your problem. I've had tech support inside my wordpress admin account playing with plugin settings and stuff trying to help me with something. Very awesome.

This. So much this. I love those guys.

And I use namecheap for my domains. I've not had any problems with them and the prices are fair.

This ^^.

Namecheap

Godaddy is upsell central. Also disjointed non-helpful customer service if you ever have a real problem, even with having an account rep. You can do better.
