Well I've deleted 'em like a month ago and reinstalled it 2-3 days ago, but then I realized why I deleted them: I couldn't focus on anything else, and I became lazy.

EDIT: Yea, my computer is "clean" again

Hhahaa exactly try to find a productive alternative SUPER FAST before you install a game again :O

If you're really serious, you know you can sell your steam account (if you use it). There are websites set up specifically for that. But that is of course the nuclear option.

You can't sell a LoL account, it against a rules and to be honest I don't want to throw away 2000 hours of work.
Thanks for the tips but I don't need them ^_^

Hi guys.. I have a real big problem. I can't do anything or finish anything unless I quit games. I know it's not a serious condition that I have, but it does get in the way with a lot of things that I do on my computer because I get way to distracted. I end up playing 1 game then another then another......again and again. It's really just frustrating at the end of it all. I realize I haven'y gotten anything done at all. And minutes of gaming have become hours and it's really depressing.

I'm not trying to limit myself to a few hours a week/day/month, but I'm trying to quit for good. I know there are those out there that play games and are successful, but I really just want to get gaming out of my life.

If you guys are wondering whether I have a gaming console or a pc, I have a pc. That's why it gets in the way so much because since I'm using my computer to play games, I can't seperate it and I end up gaming because I see it on my desktop.

I want to thank everyone and anyone who helps me overcome this. There are many things that I can do in my life and I don't want it to rot away because I simply couldn't resist my urge. Any ideas and tips would be super helpful.

Thank you again.

I love playing games as well and I don't think it's a problem for me as long as it's not the first thing that I do. If I start with games, instead of work, I never get around to work, and productive time is wasted.

Sometimes, (I work as a freelance writer) when I'm done writing a few articles, I like to take a break, and fire up some random game, like Skyrim. But now, I'm losing interest in games, mainly because my laptop can't handle the games that I want to play anyways, lol.

Anyways, good luck!

Trade your PC for a Mac. Most games will not be available, and those that are, will suck.

Thats is actually a good advice, i dont have a PC, but i have a serious gaming addiction on Xbox 360, on one beautiful day o got angry and sold my Xbox i decide never to buy a new console, this was 8 - 9 months ago, ever since them gaming was never a problem in my life again. Looking back a remember that in the first days without playing Fifa, i had a seriously problem, because i felt deep in my head that i needed to play, but because a did not have the Xbox right there i was able to suppress those feelings, and with time things just got easier and easier.

Well, obviously if you're addicted to gaming, you should get rid of your games. Gaming might not be the problem though. You could be procrastinating, and gaming is just something you do to procrastinate. If this is the case, it's not going to change just by giving up gaming.

If you're not addicted though, maybe tomorrow, wake up and decide you have these things to accomplish with your work, and get it all done. Gaming could be something you do on your downtime.

And contrary to what a lot of people think, gaming isn't the devil. It actually improves your brain function. Thing is, you have to have control, just like everything else in life. Even too much working isn't healthy.

Make a list of the things you need to accomplish that day, and make sure you do them come hell or high water.

I don't know if giving up gaming is a solution for me really as I can stop whenever I want and I do. I go through periods when I don't play at all for months even, then I have periods where I can play 12 hours a day for a week or so...when a game I'm excited for launches. It may be good or bad I don't really know but they are entertainment for me.

If I was to classify myself with an addiction of any kind it'd probably be internet addiction, I quite literally need to be connected on a daily basis, but it is my source of income, so I don't know if that's understandable or not. But yes it's certainly detrimental to other aspects of my life right now I'm sure. Even with that self awareness I won't be changing my daily ritual anytime soon.

I work as much as I probably waste time, but removing them wouldn't solve the issue for me I don't think. When I was a kid/teen/younger adult than now (24) I'd waste hours and hours of a day playing sports. So I'd probably just replace it with a ''healthier'' addiction of sorts, to replace the time.

The only genuine solution if you're dead serious is to sell everything gaming related, and if you hate apps and web games (which I mainly do) then you're safe, otherwise good luck to you, almost no avoiding them seeing as you can play them on any tech device these days.

I think most people you meet, especially young people, are addicted to the internet. Whether the are aware of it or not.

If youre at all serious about this, the evidence of those 2000s should be your shame, not a piece of "work" you can't live without.

This thread is sort of annoying to read. Get serious or stop complaining about your inability to make the obvious decision here.

Sunk cost fallacy.
It hurts to realize that you actually burnt 100 days of your life on a useless video game.

Everyone's so freakin one sided here. I've been playing DotA since I was 13, which is around 5000 hours of experience. If I had family that encouraged this, instead of stopping me at every chance, I would have made more money than anybody I knew in my age bracket (and some adults as well). I've beaten and lost to the best NA players, several of which teamed up and placed third in the biggest gaming $$ tournament of all time (3rd place was 1 mill, split 5 ways--this was 2 months ago).

And let's not talk about the streaming revenue that pops up when you become a eSports celebrity.

But what do I know? Let's throw our games under the lawnmower...

yeah. So all the thousands of kids that play basketball instead of going to school should keep playing because they might be in the NBA one day and win a lot of $$$.

look at how many people are playing
let's say 10% of the players take the game very seriously, like a second life
dota is practice, practice and more practice (like everything)
you're competing against video games MASTERS
if you are want to make money with dota 2, you better start treating it like your life, your obsession, or it ain't gonna happen, you're wasting your time
and even then, you won't make much money

Of course dude, I said the same thing above. Eat, breathe, live the game.

I'm only offering an alternative perspective to the one-sided anti-gaming view.

How can video games ever compete with the game of business? An unmatched RPG with an assortment of skills to grind? With such skills as:

Resourcefulness (Ingenuity over Money)
Selling
Personal Network
Vision
Raising Money
Bootstrapping
Marketing
Leadership
Idea to Implementation Speed
Communication

Become a lv71 whatever in those. Then after a few hundred thou float in your account every month. Break out the xBox. That's my own philosophy. I love games as much as anyone. Big Diablo II LOD guy back in the day, while those skills sharpened all life applicable skills stagnated.

Yea. That's really F*ckin' cool.

Video games are fun. I am a big fan of the Assassin's Creed Series. The game play, and the trailers... it's like you're watching and BEING modern-day Musashi, strategically maneuvering through life as a true RONIN.

Think of your life as your own video game, kind of like Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic. Your life is a role-playing game. What sort of character are you? Which side of the force will you master? The dark? Or the light? Or... both...?

Heh-heh-heh.

Are you the kind of hero that will actually accomplish something amazing in the real world? Do you deserve your own epic soundtrack when you arrive on the scene? Will you unashamedly aim at the heavens... because that's what Ayn Rand would've wanted? Will you have a crowning moment of tremendous triumph - a moment that would make Friedrich Nietzsche stand up and ROAR: HELL, YEA!

Will you listen to Robert Greene throughout the 50th Law, and in Mastery (the book inspired BY the 50Th Law), when he tells you that you need to accept drudge work... you need to sit through the "boring" times in life... you can take some wretched glory for yourself.

Take some for yourself. Fortune is a woman, Machiavelli advises (warns... ENCOURAGES?), and she needs to be beaten and treated roughly in order for her to behave.

So treat her roughly then.

Get off your lazy butt, and stop pursuing a fake goal ("beating" a video game) that accomplishes nothing for you in reality (but it DOES help the dreams of the folks who programmed and created that little mind maze for you to buy).

Here is a perfect analogy. Playing video games is akin to watching pornography. Essentially, you're only fantasizing about what you wish you could be doing in real life. If the dream is great, how great will it be for the dream to come true?

I think a site like this is the perfect stage to UNLEASH a a glorious, epic moment... in the category of Halo 3 in Greatness.

Why not make YOUR story rated (M) for MATURE, because YOUR STORY contains blood, intense violence, sexual themes and strong language?

Take your passion for games and make a real life game. Set a massive library of things to accomplish and allow user submission as as well. Based on how interesting or challenging the feat is, they get a certain amount of "Life Points" that they can use towards real purchases through your partners and sponsors. Make them provide a receipt and or picture that proves they did whatever they claimed and have it validated by your team. Visit a state...5 life points..see a certain movie...3.. go to a certain restaurant. ..5 more... visit a theme park..50... purchase a certain venue ticket? 50 more...... make a ranking system that shows people's life point amount. People with a ton of points are obviously very interesting and adventurous. People want to compete by being high on that list. Companies want to be with you because you're encouraging people to buy and use services for these life points.....you're welcome...

Sent from phone. Sorry for mistakes. ..

But what do I know? Let's throw our games under the lawnmower...

E-sports is along the same lines as professional ball playing. You gotta be exceptional. Chances are, OP isn't exceptional nor is he making money streaming, but it's just something he does to spend time.

Someone could have made the same argument that because he was all-state in football and was on track to a NCAA Division I school that the forum is being 'one-sided' against professional sports. If someone makes a board with the title "Fastlane or college football, what should I focus on" the forum will almost unanimously say to study businesses. College football is a huge time commitment. So is e-sports.

Can e-sports be fastlane? Of course it can, if you get famous. Gaming channels are a huge revenue source for many Youtubers, and Twitch streaming revenue is pretty damn good. Prize money can be amazing and don't forget corporate sponsorships!

(that is, if you completely disregard the commandment of control and decide NOT to consider that Youtube or Twitch might shut down your account at any moment, killing your income)

Instead of training to become an e-sports player, how about selling info products targeted to people who want to become e-sports players? Instead of playing games, how about making games? Instead of buying specialized computer equipment, how about licensing a famous e-sports player's name to sell specialized computer equipment?

Producing > consuming.

Here's the thing though: making info products about the game you love SUCKS compared to playing it!

However, you are completely right about the violation of control. And you're probably right about the OP just gaming for fun, rather than trying to make it as a gamer. The same determination you need to make it as an entrepreneur, is the same level of fanatical devotion you need to make it as a pro gamer.

Whatever you choose to do, just go hard on it.

But when you see the money falling into your bank account while you play at your level, not worrying about an account shutdown, not worrying about a sponsor pulling your funding, not worrying about losing to the other team...

This is the fastlane entrepreneur forum, not the fastlane pro gamer forum. And if your aspirations are to make it as a pro gamer... I'd rather build a business that allows me to train and play when I need to, instead of banking on a corporate sponsor so you can finally quit your day job to train hardcore.
