I would love to see this kind of footage before renting houses on vrbo. Someone could probably build a nice little business offering exactly that. Shoot some destination video and combine it with property video and charge each owner $500.

I just revisited Reykjavik, Iceland from my week travel there back in January. Amazing!! Sure, I will explore new cities, but I'm cultivating some strong nostalgia at the moment. Next up Berlin and Frankfurt. Awesome find.

When I was exploring a business regarding vacation rentals, I learned that perhaps the most important and expensive intellectual property the property management companies had was the images of their houses. They paid full-time salaries for photographers, aggressively protected copyright on their photos, and threatened to sue me if I so much as used a thumbnail image without their express permission. Vacation home photography is a large and serious business.

Keep in mind that the FAA is coming down hard on the commercial use of drones. The issue is being litigated in a number of courts. That said, I think it's a no-brainer that there will be drone photography millionaires who focus exclusively on vacation homes.

Imagine a shot where the drone starts up high, swoops low to the driveway, goes through the open door and around the house, then flies out the back door off the balcony with the ocean in full view, spinning back to the house from the beach!

Absolutely Fantastic!! Liked the Cameroon vid very much, still much more travelling to go haha! Id love to see what else can be done with these drones. Scalable indeed.

It would be cool to set up Drone docking stations around the world which can be rented and controlled via your laptop at home in bed...maybe feeling to travel Havana, Cuba or London, UK before you rest your eyes. You will have Full Control for whole 30mins. I dont know about you but it does seem pretty awesome to me haha:rockon::tiphat:

Thoughts anyone??

Could be lucrative for hotel property as well. Saw a couple of those on the drone site. And of course, real estate photography for RE agents.

If anything, it would be a fun way to take vacations for free. Book a few big clients in the same city for $1,500 a pop, and then go have a week long vacation. haha

Only $499, that's less than an iPhone.

You could be charging realtors for aerial pics in no time. A business in a box. It's the type of thing that could make you a lot of money being the first one in.

There are quite a few people doing this already and a bunch of regulations to be aware of.

I sold my drone last week on craigslist. Mine was the DJI phantom 2. If I were going to get another one today, I'd get the DJI phanton 2+. I found that I did not fly it that much on vacation, mostly because it was a pain to carry around.

The people who called and were interested in the drone were: a realtor, a photographer and a construction company. The construction company was the one that bought it, mainly to take photos of completed projects to send to clients.

the idea of the drone business really intriqued me. so i started looking into it... a lot of government red tape to jump over to get a drone in the air for commercial purposes.

Keeps the lookee-looos out of the business. Entry barriers. Not a bad thing.

"A ruling handed down last week strikes the FAA’s prohibition on using unmanned aircraft systems for commercial purposes."

http://fortune.com/2014/03/10/judge-its-always-been-legal-to-fly-commercial-drones-in-the-u-s/

Anything more recent than March of this year on FAA regulations? Seems like the FAA is really stalled out on getting regulations in place regarding drones. It appears that for the moment it is predominantly the jurisdiction of your state and local (city, etc.) books to regulate drone use commercially.

I could see this being big for areas up north where people get snowed in. They could order groceries, toiletries, etc when weather is bad. Hell, start a company, get a government contract with FEMA and start providing air drops for flooded areas where people are stranded. That's where the money would be. The applications are pretty much endless.
