Just read an article about a guy who became a multi millionaire buying counterfeit designer clothes from china for cheap and selling them at top dollar on ebay and other websites. Would you guys consider this to be a fast lane?

Seriously, you are asking that question after being a member for two freaking years? :smx8:

Edit: To answer, hell no. The government can come in, throw you in jail and take all your money; not to mention your credibility to do any business in the future would be all but destroyed as well.

It's the FastLane to jail and a whole bunch of lawsuits filed against you.

In the book MJ specifically says that, in addition to filling a need in the marketplace, your business should overwhelm people with how good the service is. It's hard to "wow" people if you're a lying shitbag.

Couldn't that be the hook?

Something along the lines of:
Look like you are wearing top brands for 10 cents on the dollar? These aren't the real thing, but they sure look close!

Can you make a lot of money. The answer is probably yes. Can you lose everything, the answer is yes. But the real reason that this is not fastlane, other then it being illegal, is you are not building a business that you can sell. Since your business is illegal you will find that there are a great deal of restrictions placed on you. For example, it might be difficult to scale because ebay will be continually shutting down your accounts, you will have to be consistently making new accounts, essentially playing cat and mouse everyday with both ebay, the brands, and the law. There are enough things to worry about when trying to scale a business without having to worry about whether or not you are going to get shut down tomorrow.

I am willing to bet that the person who made millions doing this type of business would have made the same or more if they used their obvious business talent for a legitimate enterprise and I wouldn't be surprised if he made the bulk of his money years ago before everybody new about this and created much more sophisticated anti-counterfit procedures.

Funny this is posted because I just purchased some products on ebay and it turns out they were counterfeit. The products in the pictures weren't, but the ones I received are obviously. What was crazy was the amount of effort to replicate the packaging. The inserts, boxes, storage bag, and brochures were all identical to the real ones. Ebay actually emailed me and told me the seller was in trouble and taken off ebay. Oh well, live and learn, they make good conversation pieces.

Wouldn't that still be illegal though? I've looked into this after seeing all of the fake Nike sneakers on alibaba, and basically you can't put the name "Nike" in anything. I'm not sure what the legal ramifications would be for putting 'look-alike nikes' in your ebay description, but chances are it would still be bad because of the swoosh being copyrighted or something like that.

Now OP mentioned selling on eBay, but perhaps you could pull it off on another website. If you do, I'd be all over it. I've been looking to buy a pair of fake Prada sunglasses for a while. If you can find me a way to buy ones that look just like that, but for $30 instead of $300, then say no more, you can just take my money at that point.

This forum is not going to be a haven for people to have a discussion about the pros and cons of selling counterfeit merchandise, or any other illegal avenue for making money.

For the record, selling counterfeit merchandise is not Fastlane - it's DumbAssLane, and stealing from rightful brand holders.

selling counterfeit goods fast lane?

About as Fastlane as stealing from the elderly or selling drugs to teenagers -- if you are seriously considering theft as a business, do us a favor and leave the forum. Frankly, I've had enough of the thieves that use the forum to rip-off other people and people who are genuinely trying to help.

The saddest part of all is, if scammers put in half the effort that they spend ripping people off into a legitimate business, they would probably be wildly successful.

Why scam for 60 hours to steal $1000 when you can give value for 40 hours and make $2000? I'll never understand it.

idk know about that.

it's gotta be alot easier to sell a product with a good rep/brand name.

for example. someone whos selling fake Oakleys as opposed to selling and creating their own brand.

I'm gonna guess and say that the latter is way harder. insanely harder.

I wasn't saying building a business is easier than stealing from people. I'm saying, in the long run, building a business is going to pay out WAY more than going from one scam to the next, as most scammers do.

I read an article about a guy who became a multi millionaire selling Viagra. So what? Selling counterfeit goods is a fastlane to be hated by people/customers. In some cases, this is the fastlane to plank bed.

A lot of ppl sell garbage and get rich kevin truduea sold a book about cures the government doesn't want you to know and made like 10m.

But selling counterfeit goods is illegal and I doubt you could make a lot of money unless you are the manufacturer.

Just look at all those dudes who are selling gucci bags on the street, they don't look like they are living the fast lane.
