This is going to be a little long.

Hi all 20 year old male from Brooklyn here. I joined the forum after reading the book about a month ago. (When applied) this book is life changing. I made a bunch of promises and haven't done a single one of them. I started a few then just gradually quit smh. I work part-time usually about 32 hours a week at a clothing store and I'm taking a semester off of school. Personally, I think school is a waste of time, I'm a business major and so far I'm stuck paying for classes like Bowling, Yoga and Woman's Studies (Why in the hell do I need those?) at a no name state school. I said I'd begin learning to code(started but quit) Go back to the gym, I use to work out like crazy(went once) YouTube channel(I love to entertain, created the channel and I said everyday I'd make a video, wrote down ideas, never made one.) I have a few things around the house I could get rid of, said I'd look into eBay, never did it. Hell, I was suppose to introduce myself to the forum when I made the account nearly a month ago, finally that is happening. :eusa_clap:

There are two things that helped me finally realize I need to get off my damn a$$ and take action. First is this quote I pulled from a thread on here a few days ago while I was lurking on the forum. It REALLY hit home. If someone could post the link to it and give the person credit, i copied it and emailed it to myself. I really needed that kick in the a$$ even though it was directed at a different person.

"Two weeks later and you are still sitting on your a$$.

Guess what? You might still be on your parents house two years from now.

Stop posting. You're not doing anything. Posting here is not taking action.

You said you are out of work, and then you said you are being criticized for quitting a job. Did you quit and not have other income? What's your real story?

Either go find a job, or go sell your Dad's lawnmower on eBay to see how it works. You don't need anyone's blessing (well, you might need your Dads to sell his lawn mower... depending on if he would notice quickly or not.) You are not going to find anyone here to hold your hand. You're a big boy, with a wife. Decide. Stop being a moocher.

Know what's NOT going to generate money? Sitting here posting about how afraid you are.

Some people aren't cut out for this. You might be one of them. You might be better with a job.

Sitting on your a$$ doing nothing is the worst path you could choose. Congrats... you're at the bottom.

Get off your a$$, forget looking for the pity party because nobody here can do anything for you unless you do something for yourself.

Make a mistake. Live life. There's more to life than eating out of your Dad's refrigerator and watching TV with your Mom.

Seriously. Get off your a$$. Spend the next 48 hours straight studying ways you might make some money, and then come back here and post what ever QUESTIONS you might have (questions that someone might be able to answer... not "can you please hold me because I am afraid...") and people can help you help yourself.

Go. Go do something. Stop crying. Start taking action."

The second thing that definitely got me going was coming home from work today. My 27 year old uncle and my 20 year old cousin are staying with us for who knows how long. We were sitting in the living room and I was lurking on the fastlane forum as well as a number of other entrepreneur sites. My uncle is out of work and was recently kicked out of the house by my grandmother, he's never lived on his own and his been in that tiny room since they brought him home from the hospital. My cousin, love him to death, one of the nicest guys you'll meet. the prime example of a side walker. ANY money he gets he spends on nonsense like tattoos and sneakers NEVER saves. Always begging me or someone else for money. I try and try to get him to at least become a slow laner because then he'd have some savings to fall back on. Well I get home from work and these two are in the same spot I left them in arguing about basketball and Lebron James, going back and forth about people people who will make a crap ton more money and as of right now have a crap ton more success than them. As I sat there listening I thought, damn I can't have this for myself. Leeching off of my other for the rest of my life, unemployed, no source of income, ranting about side walker nonsense like which multi millionaire dribbles a ball better than other when I don't even know where my next dollar is going to come from. It's not what I want for myself, It's not what I want for my future family and it's not what I want for my current family. The time is now! And I am going to read that quote everyday as it is a constant reminder of what i DON'T want to be.

I have a few days off of work this week and this time I won't be spending them watching netflix and basketball. That's a promise I plan to keep. Thanks guys!Wow It felt good to write that stuff down, even if it means nothing to anyone seeing it in front of my eyes has really opened me up.

Inspiring thread. By coding, you meant html? How far are you into it... I just started learning this, and it feels like I'm learning an Asian language!

Looking forward to more responses.

I was learning to code in C++. To be honest I didn't know where to start, there are so many languages. I have a few ideas for some websites as well as mobile apps. LEarning to create them has definitely always interested me. I was using a program called code academy before I stopped, it was the easiest way. But I found a YouTuber who teaches how to code in various languages and seeing it on the screen and following along has helped. Another person says its best to learn by watching the videos and then stopping every 4-5 lessons to write code on the things you've learned so far. It keeps the memory fresh.

thenewboston - YouTube That's the link to the channel. There's also a site, thenewboston.com The tutorials are free. They're a real help. I honestly can't wait to get back in to it and see where this takes me.

Geez you sure painted a vivid picture there! Anyway hello and as requested, here is a link to that great post you mention, I remember it too:

https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/ge...rtup/44298-scared-start-alone.html#post258656
Thanks for the link! THANK YOU! Yeah I had to. I needed to SEE it in front of me. All the things I said I'd do but never did, the procrastination, my life. I needed to see it. I'm going to write things down from now on or they'll just wither away in my mind like all the other promises and ideas I've thought to myself.

Hi and welcome :)

I`ve learned to code some java for android app`s with thenewboston. Realy a great source of information and well explained.
Its good that you start, but i dont think you realy need to learn that. But thats different from person to person. For me it had been better if i invested the time in how to build a business... Even if I have kind of a coding background (html php...)

So i wish you good luck for your jurney!
With kind regards from Berlin

Don't learn to code, it's just busy work unless you are planning on becoming a coder. Sell some shit on ebay and hire a coder for whatever you are looking to create. The only code I would suggest learning is some basic HTML and CSS, make yourself a wordpress site and go to town familiarizing yourself with the code, it's really pretty self explanatory once you poke around with it some; that way you don't have to hire someone for every landing page or website you need to create.

I had a hard time deciding whether or not to do this, but I thought to myself, that if most of my income is going to be online... I better learn the language that way I'm not giving control to some guy in India.

C++ isn't that for game programmers? No offense, but it seems like a useless code to learn.

I believe that was good ol' Vigilante who wrote that.

Read the rest of his posts.

Now, what's your plan for the next six months?

Getting off your a$$?
We'll see.

I'll congratulate you after you do it.
That's completely fair and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ultimately I must do this for myself. People make promises all the time. I plan on keeping mine. Only time will tell, I'll keep you all posted ;)

I've read a few, very insightful person. I plan on reading a few more of them. My plan for the next six months is to LEARN. Learning to be independent of a job, I mentioned I have a few things in the house I could sell. Well i posted one of them on eBay this afternoon so there is a start in the learning process. I definitely plan on taking Mike up on his coding advice. I plan on taking in as much as I can, implementing them as I go. I'm here to learn, I'm parked and I'm taking steps to put it in first gear at least. lol

By making these realizations it will allow you take that next step which I believe you have.

I believe I will become a billionaire. And my reason is simple. As long as I continue to grow everyday I will get there. It doesn't matter how.

You'll get there. After you have said all you have said, there may be another day where you don't grow.. you may procrastinate and not achieve your goal for that day. It will piss you off. You get into a groove of doing this work for yourself thing and it just builds upon itself like snowball. I can't say much but I haven't had a procrastination day in the last 2 weeks. I'm going to keep the streak alive until I have what I desire.

May I ask what type of industry you are interested in getting involved in?

BTW writing this post from my full time job! still got more work to do when I get home

On learning to code, I don't think its as effective as to finding a project to work on, wanting to implement that feature and then finding the code to do it i.e problem by problem basis. Otherwise its going to seem like an Asian language.

I like to think of it as learning math for the sake of learning maths like they do in school, yeh you have to do it / gives you a foundation but to some people it seems pointless and difficult because they have no real reason to learn it. Perhaps if they made you make a game where you had to apply your math then it wouldnt be "learning math" you would just learn through osmosis, same with programming.

Everyone learns differently though! But I think thats the most effective

C++ Isn't useless btw.

Thenewboston is a fantastic resource, I followed him and learned a good bit about building IOS apps.

I will give my opinion on the programming thing. I would stick with the absolute basics first, which is html/css and then toss in some javascript/jQuery. This is so that you can get a basic site up and running utilizing an existing CMS (be it wordpress, drupal or w/e you wish) Then move on to some server side like php.

Unless you're going to write an actual piece of software from scratch which would be an unbelievably massive undertaking for someone new to coding C++ should not be a focal point.

On learning to code, I don't think its as effective as to finding a project to work on, wanting to implement that feature and then finding the code to do it i.e problem by problem basis.

I completely agree with this, a LARGE majority of my learning has been from scenarios where I've wanted to achieve something and didn't know how. So I would turn to tutorials and see other's techniques or piece together ideas to make it work. After so many learning experiences like that you retain a large amount and the next idea becomes a little easier than the last!

Anyways, I always get a little carried away when this subject gets brought up but that's my humble opinion. I'm in a similar situation to you, I mostly lurk since I don't have anything impressive to share yet but I hope you stay true to your words and take action towards what it is you want in life.

If I can help you in anyway let me know.

+1 on learning HTML and CSS

I also recommend getting an idea of MySQL database theory and how PHP corresponds with MySQL (table design etc.. just a few hours of reading) - your coder/programmer will appreciate a lot and it will save a lot of hassle, time and money

UPDATE:

Wow it's really been over a year since I've posted here.

Well, late last year I'd had enough. I saw an ad for Real Estate school and it's always been an idea I'd thought about since I was a kid. I began the classes and in NY you have to complete at lease 18 out of 20 classes to get your license and the wait to take the state exam was about 2 months so I procrastinated. Two weeks to go till exam time and I think I had taken 7/20 (you can take them in any order ex. subject 1 in the morning and subject 17 in the afternoon) I found myself scrambling to get it done, luckily this Schooling Company had 4 offices in NYC(Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx) that you could take classes at and equally as lucky was me having a car($800 Saturn hooptie and I love it). I was driving from borough to borough to get all the classes I hadn't taken before the exam, calling out of work to get them all. I was working two jobs at the time (retail associate and arena usher where I still maintain a job...for now)

Currently working in the Manhattan rental market. Things are picking up, its been a very hard winter(started RE beginning of December) but at this point I wouldn't have it any other way. I have a lease signing to attend with a client tomorrow and with it comes a 3k commission. I'm forced to quit my super easy sidejob at the Barclays Center(my arena job) because the lease signing conflicts with an event I'm scheduled to work. I feel like I need to quit though, this job which I only work maybe once a week. The only reason I held on was because it was easy and infrequent but I feel it is holding me back. So as I write this update, I also write my resignation letter to my managers. Now that I'll have no "guaranteed" income I'll have to work 50 times as hard on my Real Estate biz. Bring it on!

Just today I walked into the Maserati Dealership on Canal Street and told the guy to remember my face because in 2 years I'd be buying a blue GranTurismo MC from him! haha

Oh and if anyone is looking to rent in NYC I'M YOUR GUY! Have a good night folks.
