Thread: If you have kids, send them to college?

I will not pay for my (future) kids to go to college UNLESS they have a clear goal in mind for what degree they want, how they will apply it, and experience shadowing others in the field.

If it is truly their heart's desire to be an Accountant, they spend time reading Accounting books and doing part-time work for a CPA, then aside from them clearly being weirdo's, they will need a college degree and I will support them. Same thing for lawyer, Dr, etc.

Now, if they think 'I just want to go to college to get a General Business Degree and screw chicks', well no way in hell am I paying for that.

I agree completely. I want to be able to purchase or finance a business for my kids if they would prefer over going to college. I think purchasing a business is overlooked by almost everybody as an alternative to college. They will learn a multitude of skills that will prepair them for the real world unlike business school. I cannot think of a better way to learn about business then running one. Plus if it fails they can always take out student loans and go to school with a greater appreciation for how hard it really is to make it in the world. In many ways it might be like buying your kid a job but isn't that the idea behind college.
