Ok... so its been a few weeks since I finished reading Fastlane. I have every component within me that the book outlines as necessary to be in the fastlane EXCEPT.... I am coming up blank on what business to start... one that fills a need.... one that will bring in a cash flow that allows me to quit being an employee and be my own business.

Today I am alone and in a quiet house (minus the sound of the dogs), which is a rare thing, so I am spending the entire day searching for that one idea to get me on the fastlane and out of my corporate chains...

    Hi Denise -

My name is Irwin and I live in San Diego, CA. I feel your pain - I'm almost done with the book and go through a lot of days like the one you're having right now. What do you currently do for a living? Do you see any opportunities in your current industry? I have an accounting/ financial analysis background and had a few ideas within the financial services industry, but am not really interested in this industry... I feel your pain... we have the passion and drive, but... no car to drive...!!!

Hey Irwin, I currently work in healthcare. I am a bit of a health nut (not too over the top though!) and enjoy health and natural health cure subjects. A few years ago I created a website called Natural Health Zone but I could not seem to get traffic there or generate income. I had a blast making the website (all in between running a landscaping business, homeschooling 2 kids, and running a household all on my own), but I think I should have obtained some help to monetize the website because I obviously did not do something right!!

I do love to write and I am seriously thinking about going that direction to start. I already wrote a book a few years ago that has been just sitting on my desktop waiting to be put into ebook form and sold on Amazon and Kindle!! I am getting ready to edit and re-edit and get it on there!

Besides that I am also looking to build a website that offers something that fills a great need.... this is where I am having trouble! The product! While I have an idea factory in my head and tons of ideas for inventions, choosing the winner is difficult.

Keep moving forward with your ideas until you find that one that will help you reach your goals!! MJ's book is an awesome resource to use as a roadmap. I keep flipping back through it each day.

    Hi Irwin,

I love the book. It reminds me a lot of what Richard bran son spoke about in his book, business stripped bare. Anyways, I have a part time business with fragrances and perfumes that generates over sixty thousand profit a year working about ten hours a week. I have tried to create a website to make this scaleable and offer a home party package but I suck so bad at websites. I try to learn and end up getting so frustrated. I even paid a company four thousand and it bombed and that company is now out of business. I am willing to pay someone to teach me and even help me build a couple of sites but i have no idea where to look.

In my day job, I am a leading trainer, speaker and coach that has helped startups to fortune five hundreds increase sales and profit margins by up to forty nine percent in a matter of months. Yet I can not figure out website stuff. In my mid thirty's I feel so stupid about this and behind. I have bought books and tried and tried but to no avail.

I am even working on a book through fast pencil and I wanted to do a simple word press blogsite hosted on it's on domain. I have the domain and word press blog installed but I

cannot figure out the cpanel. It makes no sense to me...ugh. Anyways, I wish you all the best. I am sure you will make it. If you need some great creative thoughts to get your juices flowing check out the book duct tape marketing.

Sorry for relaying my on woes but I bet we. All get trapped somewhere and I know if we stick together we can all make it. If anyone knows how I can be helped please let me know. I am willing to pay for help.

I love my job but ten thousand a month is not the fast lane and we all want freedom. Go for it.

    All the best,
    Tony

Tony, right now I would be thrilled with ten thousand a month! But we both know what we are capable of and continue to strive towards that higher number to allow the freedom to pursue other things. I have been researching again today, all day! I'm beginning to drive myself a little batty! If you are already so successful with the perfume website, I would think you should hire someone to take it to the next level, since you struggle in that area. Don't let one bad experience stop you from getting help! There are lots of people who know how to do it, you just need to find one of them.... check out their previous work and make sure they can produce results for you before you pay them!

Denise, I guess I wasn't very clear when I wrote the post but it was pretty late and I had just signed up for this forum. Also, I was typing on my mobile phone which was driving me batty!

I think it is great that you are doing so much research. As for me, my fragrance business is successful from offline sales and ebay. I could never get the website off the ground. I had it built, spent about 5k and even had existing customers try and buy through it but it never worked. Anyways, I think I will research for a local web company. The problem is that I have almost no time during the day with my full-time job to do anything for my part-time business. I'm hoping to find a bright person that will talk to me on nights and weekends.

Thanks for the advice about checking the person out. I think that is where I made my mistake. I went for a company that ended up being very sketchy. Maybe that is why they are now out of business.

Are you trying to do your business online or offline?

    Hey Denise,
This is one of the biggest challenges internet marketers face. There are so many opportunities out there that trying to find the best one for yourself is a daunting task. This week, I'm most likely getting involved in a health and wellness company that's adding 14,000 new members a month; which means it's exploding fast. I'm still looking over it throughly before I join, but if I do it could be a great business for someone just starting out. If you're interested in hearing more about it, feel free to send me a message on here.

I'm not just trying to "make a sale" either. I've been trying various businesses for 4 years now so I have a pretty good sense of which ones are good and which ones aren't. I've learned this from "the school of hard knocks" after getting involved in many businesses that were terrible. I know how hard it is trying to decide what to do. Also, you can find ratings of many businesses on imreportcard.com. It's a great resource.

One piece of advice: Any business that says it's "easy" or "turnkey" usually isn't trustworthy. It's all but impossible to find a business that's easy, even though most claim that they are. This is one of the biggest lies out there.

Hi Tony, Fragrances and Performes? That's a very good business. sometime last year i developed an idea that had to do with reinventing 'the art of using fragrances and perfumes' in the modern upwardly mobile society, but couldn't get it running or started all because of my geographic location, desired demography and lack of basic technology. Am an entrepreneur and innovator with interest in almost everything that has to do with developing innovative ideas for marketing stunts and reinventing all types of consumer products. I am willing to share the perfume and fragrance idea with you. It's something that's almost non-existent at the moment, and the market it huge and obviously untapped from the angle am coming from. Pls feel free to send me a message if you are interested in getting an elaborate view on this idea.

You're not the only one who is confused by cpanel. I consider myself pretty intelligent, but I found both wordpress and hostgator to be very hard to figure out. The problem is the old "sneakerhead" argument. People who create software know it like the back of their hand, but the average person is utterly confused when thrown into it. Try using weebly. Very easy and it has some very good SEO tools built in.

    Hello Denise,

first of all congratulations on your courage to pursue the fastlane. From what I read you do have many other things in your life, that demand your strength and time.

Since I have not yet hit the fastlane myself, I can not give you any magical advice, just some personal thoughts:
The book that you wrote some time ago could be a good start. If you concentrate on this one project, there is a good chance that you see results soon and this will bring you to the next level.
Searching for the best idea usually does not work, but executing just ONE idea (process) is more productive.

You will find answers to your question on the complains of other people. I saw a video of MJ and there he states that we can find many different ideas through peoples comment. Like you type I hate in twitter or google or basically anything you get loads of complaints on I hate This sucks. For example When we find people writing I hate packing we can think of business that packs peoples stuffs while they are moving from one place to another. We find ideas about business through people's complains.
I too am exactly at the same place as you are but i am also having another problem that is the money. Even if I have ideas and thoughts I lack in investment. i don't have enough money for investments. That's another problem so i think i need to get on some small business first and then move on towards making it big.
    Hope this helps you.
